AIBU?

For DH to pick me up. DS is asleep at home and we have house guests also asleep

The guests are my Brother and SIL who arrived this morning and are asleep. DS is asleep in his cot (19 months). I am on my way home from work xmas party. 30 min walk from station or 5 min drive. It’s cold and I’m a little drunk. Should DH leave them all sleeping to come and pick me up (or wake DB to warm him?)

YABU did you not think about this before you went? Can't you get a taxi?

There are adults in the hose. Dh can leave a note in case they wake up surely?

Report
BigStripeyBastard · 15/12/2017 22:47

Just wake db and tell him.

I would usually just walk. But then there are usually no other adults at home so nothing to consider

Tell DH to nudge DB awake and tell him.

Don't walk home. Can you get a taxi?

There are grown ups in the house! Text your brother that dh has nipped out to get you. Ds is in a cot I assume so can’t escape?

Wake BIL and warm him to listen out for your ds. Th n dh should come and get you.

He needs to wake your brother to tell him he's leaving them with the baby.

What if there is a fire and your relative don't know to be responsible to get your son out? You could be delayed and put them in a vulnerable position. Quite shocked you've not considered the getting home factor already when planning to go on your night out

Shocked is a bit strong but genuinely taken aback

I didn’t consider it as I usually walk from station. It just dawned on me that there are other adults at home so I may not need to walk it

What was your plan to get home?

Do you or your DH take it in turns to stay awake all night in case of some catastrophe? Of course you don't. there are other adults in the house.

BTW re the fire thing? You'd normally all be asleep and asphyxiated in minutes.

I cant believe there is a thread over a 5 minute drive.

MN Collective would like you to walk home (tipsy) and rather vulnerable

It’s fine for your dh to pick you up as there will be adults in the house.

But you ABSOLUTELY must tell them first.

If there was a fire or an emergency they would assume you are there to get you dc. Those few minutes of confusion could be enough to destroy your life.

I’m going to assume you are a bit tipsy, hence you even needing to question whether they should be told.

(Sorry, but sensitive about this have experienced how rapid house fires are and am now terrified)

Tell him to come and get you - obviously!

Just tell him to text or wake his brother!

So don’t bother taking precautions? Fucking stupid and dangerous post.

A good alarm and those few minutes it gives saves lives.

If op and her dh were out and a fire started those few minutes would be wasted, at least for her dc.

Can you be sure he hasnt had a drink with B & SIL? I wouldnt bother tbh, but I would get a taxi rather than walk, not very safe if you are a bit squiffy.

But those adults won't know that they are in sole charge. If they hear the baby crying, for instance, it will be some time before they wonder why no-one is responding.

Yes I can be sure. But I’m going to walk, decided don’t want to wake them. They had a long flight last night and are jet-lagged

Well how did you plan to get home when you knew you were going out? Doesn’t everyone think about this when going out.

Get a taxi?
But yes if you ask your dh to get you, of course he needs to wake and tell the others

If DH is completely sober, why not? It will take less than 10 mins.
If, on the other hand, he had a drink earlier, then not.
I'm sure your brother would hear if your DC started screaming.

Just leave them sleeping. A 5 Min drive, dh will be out for 10 mins in total. I would be so cross if somebody woke me to tell me that!

If you can afford a taxi just get one. I am not sure why you did not think of this earlier. I super could wake your brother.

Oh dear, don't walk it's so cold!

Is there a reason you can't get a taxi home? :)
