Hi all, this is my first AIBU but I'm having a panic.
Non vegan mates over this eve, they always make every effort to accommodate us when we go there but this is their first visit to ours since we are vegan.
Shall I suck it up and cook a corpse or stick with a vegan menu? Would you be offended to eat vegan at a friends as a meat eater?
Thanks in advance if you reply. Could do with a few views...

cook a corpse

Hmm

No need to be so inflammatory. I'm a meat eater but would expect to eat a vegan meal if a vegan friend was cooking for me.

RNBrie · 15/12/2017 13:51

Cook vegan. No one who is nice would complain. Make sure you have a lot of bread and wine in case they are fussy

BadPolicy · 15/12/2017 13:51

I wouldn't be offended as long as the vegan meal is something I actually like.

CryptoFascist · 15/12/2017 13:51

Cook a vegan meal and surprise them at how delicious you can make it.

pallisers · 15/12/2017 13:51

I'd expect a vegan meal if I came to you.

EssentialHummus · 15/12/2017 13:52

Totally fine to do a vegan menu, I don’t think they’d be surprised. In practice if it were me I’d do vegan but put out a bit or chorizo or something alongside the starter.

FuzzyCustard · 15/12/2017 13:52

I'd totally expect you to cook a vegan meal and it would be fine.

MadForlt · 15/12/2017 13:52

I bet they are looking forward to a vegan feast.

If they are decent people they won't be expecting you to cook meat. The only people that make a song and dance about that kind of thing are entitled twats.

I say that as a meat eater.

Enjoy your vegan meal!

Hiphopopotamus · 15/12/2017 13:53

Well don’t be that vegan that has to call meat ‘a corpse’ to make a point. Hmm

But there shouldn’t be any problems cooking a vegan meal - it’s not like they can’t eat vegetables!

Ummmmgogo · 15/12/2017 13:53

tell them to eat before they come and just do drinks? that's what me and my vegan friends do, so no-one has to eat rabbit food/corpses!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/12/2017 13:53

Cook vegan!

If nothing else if you make something meaty you won't be able to taste it to make sure it doesn't taste like shit

MentholBreeze · 15/12/2017 13:54

Cook vegan - meat/cheese/other animal product isn't required at every meal. I'm an omnivore and there are entire days where the only animal product I ingest is milk in my coffee, so I'm sure your friends can cope with one meal

Yellowheart · 15/12/2017 13:54

We’re vegans and it doesn’t even cross my mind to cook meat or buy chorizo if people come over!

maddiemookins16mum · 15/12/2017 13:55

I'd eat whatever you served me (as long as you didn't make a corpse joke and there was endless wine).
What are you cooking?

Wheelywheel · 15/12/2017 13:55

I'm with the others on the corpse thing, no need to be so high and mighty.

I'd be happy with a vegan meal as long as it was tasty.

SpiritedLondon · 15/12/2017 13:55

I think it would be weird if you handled and cooked meat as a vegan and I wouldn’t expect a friend to do this for me.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/12/2017 13:56

I'd expect a vegan meal and would love that you'd gone to the effort to host me and cook.

thelastredwinegum · 15/12/2017 13:57

Wouldn't have a problem with being served a vegan menu (if it was tasty food) would have problem if I thought I was going to be lectured about eating meat.

Onlyoldontheoutside · 15/12/2017 13:57

I am going to my sister's for a few day,she has been vegetarian for years but recently became vegan.I expect all food to be vegan,if it is as delicious as her vegetarian meals then we are in for a treat.

BenLui · 15/12/2017 13:57

We eat meet and regularly meet vegan friends at a vegan restaurant for meals.

I’d absolutely expect to eat a vegan meal in a vegan household and would be appalled at the suggestion that you’d compromise your principles for me.

GhostsToMonsoon · 15/12/2017 13:58

Cook a delicious vegan meal - they can survive without meat for one meal.

SootSprite · 15/12/2017 13:58

Cook a corpse?? Blimey. I’m surprised you have any non-vegan friends Hmm

Agree with everyone else: cook vegan. I'd be expecting you to cook a vegan meal if I were your guest.

Possibly skip any mention of corpses, however. Buzzkill if nothing else!

BestZebbie · 15/12/2017 13:59

Serve vegan food but possibly try to avoid either directly veganised versions of animal-based food (vegan yorkshire puddings etc) or very "wholesome" stereotyped 1970s pulse-based food (lentils, nut roast).
So basically, a nice modern curry or Thai meal?

WildlifeMag · 15/12/2017 13:59

I’m a meat eater but I’d expect (and enjoy) a vegan meal. Would get very bored by the ‘corpse’ comments or any attempt to preach veganism to me.
