A few of my friends send out pictures of their dc on the front of a xmas card. I love getting them but dh thinks they are abut showy. Why showy? It is too smiling toothy kids. Why would you not like them?

All unacceptable as Christmas cards:

  • Photos of your children
  • A shit drawing your child has done
  • A nativity scene
MrTrebus · 14/12/2017 15:20

I think you're my friend haha I've just sent out my cards a few days ago with my 8 month old on the front. I love it! Not showy at all just proud and I only Did it because it's her first Christmas Smile

misskatamari · 14/12/2017 15:23

Awww blueyacht - guess my cards are shit then. They're all Christmassy stuff decorated by my kids. Personally I think home made cards are lovely. They take a lot more time and effort than buying something and we like making them. I'm not a huge fan of photo cards, and wouldn't do one myself, but they can be sweet and each to their own

MickeyLuv · 14/12/2017 15:23

Why would other people want to get a photo of someone else's kids?

WhatHaveIFound · 14/12/2017 15:25

We've been sending them for the last 17 years (DH is a photographer). The only year i tried switching to email i got complaints.

lastqueenofscotland · 14/12/2017 15:25

No one thinks your kids are as lovely/ cute as you do. HTH

WhatHaveIFound · 14/12/2017 15:26

I should say they only go to family/very close friends, not everyone on my Christmas card list!

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 14/12/2017 15:27

Not everyone thinks kids are cute though. Some are ambivalent, others may be repelled.

LaContessaDiPlump · 14/12/2017 15:28

I always send a kids photo card and the first person I gave one to this year opened it with a 'I always love your Christmas cards!' So it's all fine and I will keep doing it Grin

CaptainChristmas · 14/12/2017 15:28

I don’t like them, but I don’t think it says anything terrible about the sender tbh. Just a bit cheesy. Cards featuring the whole family in ‘fun’ festive wear are my least favourite.

crackerjacket · 14/12/2017 15:28

I quite like them.

I have no idea how people have time to get them done though, I never would.

Indeed Grin

PinkHeart5914 · 14/12/2017 15:31

Well I like them! I’ve lots of family all around the world and a lot of us use them, I also send them to friends and they send the same style of card to us.

Only people we don’t send photo cards too is dh clients, more boring/traditional cards for them

whatsthewificode · 14/12/2017 15:39

I love a new baby and a puppy on a Christmas card, less keen on older DC and dislike whole family portraits.

cariadlet · 14/12/2017 15:49

I've never had a photo card and wouldn't want them. I think they're showy-offy and tacky. To be honest I'd be embarrassed on behalf of whoever sent me one.

Home made cards are a completely different thing. I'm a primary school teacher and love it if children make a card for me.

CandyMelts · 14/12/2017 15:55

I don't get any photo cards but I'd like them! Always like the look of those American bloggers with fridges covered in smiley family cards - I'm cheesy at heart though Grin

eddiemairswife · 14/12/2017 15:58

Tony Blair does this, which is a good justification to find them tasteless. This year's is Tony, Cherie and a baby grandson. Their version of The Holy Family?

GingerbreadMa · 14/12/2017 15:58

YES! I like them

All christmas cards are a BIT tacky.
IMO the most showey-offey christmas cards are the ones that try really hard to be classy, and I love them too!

yasmin05 · 14/12/2017 16:01

I love children's photos. It's always a picture of purity in all aspects.

FuzzyCustard · 14/12/2017 16:05

I only get one (usually) and I don't like them. I don't really want a picture of someone else's children, it doesn't mean that much to me. It's all about the sender, which is not the spirit of a Christmas card, I feel.

I'm not including grandchildren in this though.

And I'd be really happy if I was sent a photo of someone's kitten.

LiveLifeWithPassion · 14/12/2017 16:11

I love seeing pics of my friend’s and family’s kids so would love cards like that. We only get them from a friend in the US though. Wouldn’t be really interested in random neighbour’s, old work colleague’s kids though.

PrincessoftheSea · 14/12/2017 16:12

I like them. I love seeing photo of people children. I also like homemade cards. The rest I throw out as I don't like impersonal christmas cards. Why would you not have an interest in friends and families children? I have never thought of if as showy. How miserable!

No I think they're weird

TheNaze73 · 14/12/2017 16:17

Personally, I’m not a fan but, we can’t all like the same things

FuzzyCustard · 14/12/2017 16:23

For me, there is a difference between "showing an interest" in other people's children and having them gurning at me from my mantelpiece for a couple of weeks!

I reiterate I'd be happy to receive a kitten picture...just not the same thing at all!
