AIBU?

To be freaking out about aspergillosis

So, we have a lot of damp logs in the woodshed thanks to a shitty delivery and after going in there my chest feels a bit tight and congested. There is mould on quite a few of them and I don't have asthma, so now I am freaking out about breathing in invasive spores and dying (yeah I have had some issues wth health anxiety in the past)

Knock some sense into me?

Do you have a weakened immune system or are you taking immunosuppressants?

Do you have an underlying lung condition?

If the answers to those questions are no then it would be pretty astounding for you to manage to get aspergillosis. If the answer to one or more is yes then it can be easily treated with anti-fungals.

Most of us inhale thousands of aspergillosis spores every day, damp wood store or not.

Sorry about the health anxiety though.

My immune system isn't stellar and I currently have bronchitis but nothing long term immunity-wise like having chemo, cf etc.

I'm being a numpty aren't I. God damned anxiety.

So you have bronchitis, and going out to the unheated log store affects your chest. Nothing unexpected there.Hope you feel better soon.

If possible don't burn the damp logs, store them until they're dry. Probably months. Burning wet wood will have zero affect on your health, but will cut up your chimney with tarry deposits.

You guys are right, I have some counselling booked for other issues anyway so will bring up the anxiety too. In the meantime I'm going to have a lemsip and put my feet up x

I say it because I do it too, Lila. The things I've diagnosed myself with....!
