AIBU?

To ask which old TV shows should everyone watch?

Finally got around to watching Sons Of Anarachy and one of the series finales has me sobbing like a child. I often think there's nothing new to watch, but there are so many great older shows that people have missed out on.

My biggest recommendation would be The Shield - watched that back to back a few years ago, well after it aired, probably the best TV series I've ever seen.

Aside from the obvious (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men etc), which other long-since finished TV shows would you suggest?

My list would also include Carnivale, and 30 Rock because it's bloody hilarious.

Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes. Just discovered them this year and I seriously missed out.
and now have a slightly disturbing crush on Gene Hunt

I was surprised by how great afterlife was (especially if you love a good sob)

BackforGood · 11/12/2017 22:57

How far are we allowed to go back ?

I'd recommend:
Tenko
Roots
Holocaust

I also enjoyed Duchess of Duke Street
Upstairs Downstairs

Much more recently I like The Big C

The Wonder Years
Magnum P.I.
Brideshead Revisited
Twin Peaks
Charlie's Angels
China Beach

Arrested development is hilarious.

Gavin and Stacey.
Bottom.

We recently rewatched Due South and really enjoyed it. I’m hoping to convince DP he wants to watch Superman: The Adventures of Lois and Clark next.

afrikat · 11/12/2017 23:26

I loved Lois and Clark!

For me:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Firefly
The Gilmore Girls

I agree with The Shield and Sons of Anarchy. Both excellent with brutal endings (cried my eyes out at SoA)

Chrys2017 · 11/12/2017 23:29

NYPD Blue
Damages
Another vote for The Wire—best TV series I have ever seen. I've never watched The Sopranos though... (yet)

Some of them don't age as well. I've tried to revisit X Files and Wonder Years, having had fond memories, but couldn't bear either of them.

Weedsnseeds1 · 11/12/2017 23:30

One Summer. It's about a group of Lacs from Liverpool that went on a school trip to Wales.
Won't give away the plot but it's on YouTube.
Brass. Victorian melodrama piss take.
Brideshead Revisited.
Tenko.
The Camomile Lawn.
The Forsyte Saga.

Weedsnseeds1 · 11/12/2017 23:30

Also Coal house at war.

PringlesSmoothie · 11/12/2017 23:31

What was wrong with The Wonder Years when you watched it for the second time? I used to love it.

I think I remember it. Lots of fake tanned actors and lots of wooden acting?
