Crossed my path. Good or bad luck?

Fekko Mon 11-Dec-17 19:30:17

Both.

As a child I remember one of our neighbours not going into work as a black cat crossed his path. He was a miner and there was a fall during the shift he should have worked and colleagues were injured, some badly. This confirmed his superstition that black cats were unlucky - his wife however was equally convinced that this sequence of events proved that black cats were lucky as he was not hurt!

What if its your own pet? My black cat is always crossing my path, but as we live in the same house it does happen fairly often.

Hmmm my parents demented black beast crossed my path at silly o clock this morning as I left their house nearly tripping me over.... unlucky for me. But then I got purrs and cuddles...lucky for me. grin So both!

Black cats are lucky!

SabineUndine Mon 11-Dec-17 23:02:15

I always say it’s lucky for any black cat that crosses my path cos I’ll give it a cuddle.

goose1964 Mon 11-Dec-17 23:04:48

I thought it was lucky in the UK but unlucky in the states

TitsNnails Mon 11-Dec-17 23:07:00

In my case lucky. My black cat is on my lap and he is fabulous.

MyCatHasStaff Mon 11-Dec-17 23:07:26

Whenever a black cat crosses your path it definitely means it's going somewhere.
Owner of 3 black cats. You're welcome grin

MayFayner Mon 11-Dec-17 23:09:53

If it crosses from left to right: good luck
Right to left: bad luck

Just don't quote me on that because I made it up, or someone did.

DramaAlpaca Mon 11-Dec-17 23:10:16

To be lucky the black cat has to cross your path from left to right.

Before anyone asks, I have no idea where I heard this.

DramaAlpaca Mon 11-Dec-17 23:16:27

Oh! Great x-post with MayFayner there!

Theresnonamesleft Mon 11-Dec-17 23:19:08

So how comes us owners aren’t doomed to bad luck. Mine cross my path from all directions all the time.

MayFayner Mon 11-Dec-17 23:19:21

Really, alpaca! I said don't quote me grin

Rebeccaslicker Mon 11-Dec-17 23:19:55

Depends if you're a mouse or not!

TotemIcePole Mon 11-Dec-17 23:20:41

DramaAlpaca Mon 11-Dec-17 23:20:47

halloweenzombie Mon 11-Dec-17 23:23:48

This reminds me of the massive black cat that launched itself at my toddler... As it wanted a cuddle! Happy cat and happy DS, but I thought it wanted to claw his face off as it was so sudden shock.

melj1213 Mon 11-Dec-17 23:32:52

Another owner of black cats (two - tho one has a few white spots) here.

The only time black cats crossing my path is bad luck is if they try to do it as I am walking down stairs usually with a laundry basket or some such item that means I can't see them lurking on the step below

NoCanoe Tue 12-Dec-17 00:01:36

All cats are lucky.
Especially black ones.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper Tue 12-Dec-17 00:05:00

It depends if you are in the uk or the us.

In the uk a black cat crossing your path is good luck. In the US it’s bad luck.

I was a superstitions geek as a child, don’t judge me.
