To pull out because of programme at Christmas concert

I've been going to a choir since September, most of which has been practising for the Christmas concert this week.

We've just had the final rehearsal in which they've introduced a duet which us two people (not including me) singing 'Baby it's cold outside'.

Am I overreacting to pull out? At the moment I don't see how I can sit there through it.

What's the issue?

I don't understand. Do you hate the song? Or do you wish you were singing in the duet? Confused

Is there something wrong with that song?

Whether you are overreacting depends on the reason you would be pulling out?

Do they sing very badly?

Umm unless you have a trauma we don’t know about that you associate with it yes YWBU

It's rapey. Take a look at the lyrics.

YANBU, but it will be difficult and people will call you humourless

I think it’s because it’s a bit of a rapey song?

Rapey?

I’ve just looked at the lyrics and it’s hardly Blurred Lines.

I am confused... why do you hate that song so much?

Sorry yes because of the lyrics. I don't want to be singing the duet!

Apparently it can also be seen as a feminist anthem (really!)

Woman wants to stay but is worried about what other people will say if she does. Man tries to persuade her to stay without force.

This is not rapey.

I just read the lyrics Confused its not very rapey? Its basically just an argument about staying with a guy and the woman holds her ground and says no??

There was a thread recently about this and how it's been misunderstood as about rape when it's actually jokey, it's in the context of a relationship and the woman wanting to stay over but that (woman's desire) not being socially acceptable. I'll try and find it.

I've got to go - repeat with variations

Ah but I'd like to shag you - repeat with variations

Ah bugger it, I'll stay....

I'm 99.9% certain I first slept with now DH after a similar conversation, and he was the one thinking he should leave!

Meh don’t do it then!

Don’t really see the issue with that song myself

I hadn't thought about this before. But it's awful.

Not my favourite song and the line

Say what's in this drink? makes me wince a little these days.

Could you just suggest something a little more “relevant”
