AIBU?

To think this text from neighbour was weird?

We were sorting out an arrangement for something to be dropped off at my home and she finished the text with "Ok, thanks. Bye." Found it a bit odd is all.

What?

Whut?

Everyone has at least one text in their phone saying, 'Okay, thanks. Bye.'

What would be weird about it?

What’s weird about it?

She acknowledged your last message (ok) expressed thanks (thanks) and then signaled the end of the conversation (bye).

Seems pretty clear, concise and polite to me.

Never had a text signed off like that so thought it a bit odd but just me clearly!

Most people don't say bye in texts I agree but I don't think it's a big deal.

Ohforfucksake - so your DD and DH use the word Bye (the short form of goodbye) as a sign off?

Essentially Goodbye shortened then?

Why is that "new" or confusing?

I suppose if you were terminally stupid it might go over your head...

We were using 'Bye' back when I was a nipper in the 1960s.

Sorry.

Just to be clear.

"Bye" is the shortening of "Goodbye".

It really isn't difficult.

Unless one is stupid.

What? Everyone says bye... haven’t heard anyone say the full goodbye in years.

You're not the only one

Love you. Byeee!

It obviously should have said "k thx bye". Your neighbour is all over the shop.

Pemba · 09/12/2017 01:12

Eh? It's a perfectly clear message. Now your reaction to it, that IS a bit odd.

I text as I think I'm sounding, it doesn't always translate well. Sometimes, it's best to pick up the phone.

Was it that it seemed abrupt in the context of your previous conversation, OP?

Report
MidniteScribbler · 09/12/2017 01:25

I use 'bye' as 'I'm going to stop this conversation now and not respond anymore' as some people seem to think that they must respond to a text message, even when everything has already been said.
