To think pate is not a breakfast food?!

Have just had a conversation with DH about breakfast on Christmas day (inspired by the thread on here) as we are spending it at his parents this year. He said they might have pate on toast! He then went on to say he thinks it's weird that when we have it, it's for lunch as it's a breakfast food? Not a problem on Christmas as I can just have jam on my toast but AIBU to think it's not a breakfast food? I told him I would get MN opinions

Definite a lunch/starter food!

Love pate on toast and I often have it for breakfast

Splinterz Thu 07-Dec-17 20:41:04

I would have it for breakfast. It does on toast, ergo its breakfast food.

Personally I don't think salmon is breakfast food but people do it.

Honestly, who cares?

I can't judge - we have squid and olives for breakfast on Christmas day, along with chocolates from the selection boxes, so am not best placed to comment :-)

All food can be breakfast food :D

It’s all going in the same place, your stomach can’t tell the difference

I had it for breakfast today but I have a newborn so my meals are all to pot and i haven't been able to eat it for the past 9 months

It’s a breakfast food if you eat it for breakfast. Clearly it a breakfast food for your husband’s family.

God I love pate on toast (can’t find the posh “e”)
Bit of onion chutney too. I’d eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner!

I like pate on toast for breakfast, but I hate cereal. I like being weird.

PickAChew Thu 07-Dec-17 20:44:33

It's a perfect breakfast food.

My Polish friend had pate for breakfast every day.

We often had pate on toast for breakfast around Christmas when I was a child so I don't think it is that odd. Although it was only at Christmas we would have it for breakfast, the rest of the year it would be later in the day.

I haven't had pate on toast for breakfast for years now but might revive it this year!

That’s our xmas breakfast, pate on toast and Buck’s Fizz.

ColonelJackONeil Thu 07-Dec-17 20:46:46

I agree with you that it's not a traditional breakfast food but there's no reason why you couldn't have it it's no different than other breakfast meats.

Smashing idea! That's Christmas morning sorted! grin

DP sometimes has pate on toast for breakfast (but he's one of those "continental types" wink).

Personally I can't stand it - the smell is just too much for me at that time of the day

tealandteal Thu 07-Dec-17 20:50:15

Just me on my own with my jam then grin

SnowBallsAreHere Thu 07-Dec-17 20:50:19

I think UK breakfasts are odd. Sweet cereal and sweet jam on toast.
Far prefer a continental breakfast of bread, ham & cheese, so why not pate too?

SnowBallsAreHere Thu 07-Dec-17 20:50:58

Personally Xmas breakfast for me consists of tea, Buck’s Fizz and a croissant.

There's always pate on offer at breakfast when you go on holiday abroad. I've never eaten it here though

curryforbreakfast Thu 07-Dec-17 20:54:30

It's not not a breakfast food.

U2HasTheEdge Thu 07-Dec-17 20:55:23

Breakfast food.

Well, I would eat it any time, but I think of it as breakfast food.
