Breakfast on Christmas Day.

Am I the only person who doesn't get this obsession with huge breakfasts on Christmas Day? Nearly everyone I speak to,or read about (yes,on MN too!) say they're having a full English or similar. I was reading an article in the Co-op supermarket magazine yesterday and saw the comment along the lines of 'make sure you have a big breakfast to keep you going and make sure you have plenty of food to give your guests and family'. And this was assuming you were eating dinner at about 2pm. I have always had Christmas dinner at about 5pm,quite late by some peoples' standards, but I know for sure that if I ate a massive breakfast at about 10am and kept eating things like mince pies, sausage rolls and canapés all day,I would not be able to do justice to my dinner? Don't get me wrong,I'm NOT bragging about having a tiny appetite and neither am I slim. I am quite greedy by nature and overweight but I do like to sit down to Christmas dinner feeling hungry and able to eat it all! Or is it just me?

In our Xmas shopping order we have Xmas trees shaped crumpets. We'll have them buttered, so a nice novel breakfast but not too filling so we'll be hungry by lunch

No, I find it weird too!
I was all set to do some Baileys French Toast on Christmas morning and then asked myself what the hell I was thinking?

I don't eat a lot at the best of times, I'd rather not eat anything in the morning and then stuff my pie hole at 2pm with the full beef roast.

Everyone else is getting croissants, I'm not cooking anything Christmas morning.

We usually stick some pain au chocolat in the oven so we can eat them while opening presents.

No just a normal breakfast for us. We might have a bacon sandwich but that’s about it.

We usually eat between 2 - 3 pm and then might have cheese and biscuits at about 8ish with port and a few other nibbles.

We usually do a smoked salmon and scrambled eggs brunch at around 11ish, with bucks fizz, then eat our Christmas dinner at around 6ish. Might have a mince pie or something with a hot drink at around 3.30-4pm. I don't think that's a huge amount of food, is it? Mind you, we don't go overboard with a heavy meal in the evening.

ohhh no, no breakfast here.

Christmas day starts with coffee, progresses on to The Chocolates and some sort of festive alcohol, all with the aim of saving space for the Main Event!

I've never ever known and don't know anyone that has a full English!

Nah all you need is chocolate coins or chocolate orange lol. I usually make Dench toast as it’s light enough that by 3pmyou are ready for a meal.

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and Bucks Fizz for the hungry hordes....Bucks Fizz and a bucket of Industrial strength coffee for me

If I have breakfast I'm full till the sun goes down

It's our tradition to have a bacon sandwich, so not a huge breakfast!

But then eat all the chocolate during the day and STILL scoff a Christmas dinner at 2pm Blush

We just have pain au chocolat.

Champagne with cranberry juice and smoked salmon blinis here. Also a nice fruit salad. No booze for me this year though, as I’ll be about 8 months pregnant!

Even the thought of a full English followed by Christmas dinner at 2pm is enough to give me heartburn.

Not just you. We eat Christmas dinner anytime between 2 and 5. I have a coffee and maybe a choc from a selection box at about 9. The kids will have tea and biscuits or maybe a bit of toast.

Then I eat dinner with a starter. Then about 2 hours later have dessert.

Then I graze all evening on leftovers.

We did try smoked salmon and scrambled eggs one year but still wasn't hungry by 5 and it really spoiled my dinner.

I don't usually eat before 11am though.

Christmas tree crumpets here too!

Who wants to be doing a full fry up and then washing up and doing a full Christmas dinner?!

Could not stomach a full English then Christmas dinner.

It's usually Bucks Fizz and, at a push, a bacon sarnie. And a few sneaky chocs here and there Grin

Some pastries or cereal. Full christmas dinner at 1pm. Then crumpets for teatime about 5.30ish. Have young kids so they will need something later on. However prekids we would awake at a leisurely 8-9am, have a cuppa whilst opening presents then some chocs glass of wine and then dinner at 1pm. Nothing in the evening except more chocs/ mince pie.

We have pastries and coffee and then graze on nibbles until 2-3pm (2pm for Christmas lunch but it's always an hour late!)

I couldn't do a full English and i eat a lot. Too much meat doing that.
