33+6 and I haven't had a decent nights sleep since Sunday night. I finish work 2 weeks today so the work is starting to wind down.

My DH thinks I should stay home n sleep, aibu to do this Cos I'm not actually poorly? Before I got pregnant is only been off sick twice in 3 Years...

If I did that with non sleeping 12 month old.. I would never be in work 😂

Although.. you should catch up on all the sleep now before baby comes.

Go to work, it’ll be good practice for when the baby arrives!

When you say you haven't had a decent nights sleep since Sunday...are we talking about an hours sleep each night or broken sleep or something else?

If you're a danger to yourself when commuting for example I would consider it. I did a month of 3-4 hours sleep a night in my last pregnancy before all of the pregnancy factors became too much and I went on leave. Obviously everyone's different but I think it had to be a good reason to miss work.

Why aren't you sleeping?

You need to go to work, sorry

If the work has wound down and you're leaving in two weeks, I'd go to work! It'll prepare you for the next few years 😂

I would take a day off. Your mental health is more important than one day at work...

If you don’t feel up to work then you could consider starting your maternity leave early?

If you're just tired, I think you should go to work. If you're so tired that you can't get to work safely, or function safely once you're there, then stay at home and rest.

I would go in but take a half day.

I would go. I have been exhausted all week but don't think "i'm tired" will be an acceptable excuse unfortunately.

Take it as annual leave but don’t phone in sick

Unless you can think of a better excuse, lack of sleep isnt one, unless t here was a specific reason for the lack of sleep.

Also kinda depends on what work you need to do. Can you actually be effective? Or can you bluff your way throguh!! Or maybe it would be best to go in but ask to go home early?

I wouldn't push yourself if you are feeling unwell with the tiredness, its not worth it, but you know how bad you feel. I am terrible when I don't get enough sleep and literally cannot function properly, but most people aren't quite that bad. Could you ask for reduced hours/ mornings only for the next 2 weeks to help you to manage?

God no yanbu! But be aware that it used to be the case if you went off sick within 6 weeks of due date, maternity leave automatically commenced.but I don't know if that is still the case and also it looks as though you are a day outside that timeframe. You need to put your health first and chewing in when you are knackered is not good at any time let alone late oregnancy

Having the day off because you’re a bit tired is the reason pregnant people who are actually I’ll struggle to have work take them seriously.

Go to work.

If you are off sick and it's related to your pregnancy then your employer can choose to start your maternity leave now can't they? (they used to be able to past a certain number of weeks).

I'd go to work or start maternity leave.

Someaddedsugar · 07/12/2017 07:42

@Brizzle yeah that's still how it works but I think it's from the start of the fourth week before your baby is due so the OP might will be just before the cut off

I think if you're struggling to sleep and can't face going into work you need to start maternity leave. Otherwise you need to go in (unless you do a job where putting someone at risk).

I don't want to sound negative but you do realise that having a good night's sleep rather goes out the window once you have a baby?

You may find in a month or two you look back on the last few nights green with envy as truly awful nights become the norm for a while! I'd go to work unless you really really cannot function, if it's in an office I don't see any reason to have a day off because of being tired.

Where did the OP say her mental health was suffering?
