To hate Pinterest

It's not just the general tweeness of the place, it's the fact that it is like bindweed on the internet. I just type for pretty ideas in google, whose image search these days is just as good as Pinterest, and yet all the links take me to Pinterest, and unless I sign in, I'm not allowed to go to the website directly. No thankyou, I don't want your massive shitty app on my phone, nor do I want to sign in. I'd love to just scroll down the page and click a link thanks. Please? No? Ok, fuck off then, I'll think of how to craft a 4 foot triangular piece of wood into the face of santa all on my fucking own then. Aghhh!

I use it to help me write my novel, which I have yet to start.

I use the images for inspiration but also to use as a source material - for example period clothing.

I agree OP. I feel the same way about Etsy - they are both so ineffably twee and I hate twee.

With you, OP. I think if you type your search term into Google Images and follow it with space -pinterest.com then it won't appear in the results? E.g. holly and ivy -pinterest.com

I think you have to do it everytime, though.

I don't really get it...but admittedly haven't delved too far into it.

I downloaded it for wedding ideas but it seems to bring up a lot of pictures of tree lights in paper and string or dangling in glasses in a tree and I just think 'fire hazard'

The rest just seems twee.

I used to like it but it has gone weird, rather than showing me the people I follow it is showing me random stuff because it thinks I might be interested in it. I follow people because I want to see what they are pinning. Just because I once looked at a picture of a bird feeder or a Cornish beach doesn't mean I want hundreds of similar pics every time I go there. If I wanted to see loads of bird feeders I would search "bird feeder". And the more you look at fucking bird feeders (because that is all it is showing you) the more bird feeders you get until its bird feeders all the way down. (Replace bird feeder with Cornish beach, Lego comstructionor Tom Hiddleston as required).

I used to love it but it's full of ads now ... mostly nothing to do with what I'm interested in. Ads are annoying anywhere, but particularly on Pinterest, where the user has carefully chosen exactly the things they want to see. Pity there is no alternative (that I know about anyway).

It's certainly irritating until you sign up, so I don't think you're U in that respect. I do like it though as I treat it like a kind of mood board, and collect things that would otherwise be more of a PITA to put together otherwise. I collect pictures of hair styles and colours which makes it very handy when I try and explain what I do and don't like to my hairdresser.

YANBU, I couldn't agree more OP. Way too complicated to access anything you want to see, and on an iPad it won't even let you in without downloading the app. Absolute PITA.

It's not twee if you go after pins you actually like. You can reject the app and sign in with facebook or your gmail or set up your own account. I defy you to not be addicted the moment you do.

There are some seriously disrurbing things on there as well. Victoriam memento mori, ghost pictures, aborted feotuses. Wouldnt be happy letting my 12 year old loose on there. Though she has found some lovely Hama bead patterns.

Its incredibly frustrating that Google throws up loads of Pinterest links to pretty much anything you search for these days. I don't want to see other peoples twee, shitty 'pins' or whatever they're called. And I DONT want to join the site.

OP you're right, it's like bindweed. A bad search engine within a search engine, that won't even end up giving you the original content because it ends up being a pin of a photo pulled off Google images. If i wanted the fucking photo I would have searched only Images. Gives me the rage.
