AIBU?

Anyone know any good Indian restaurants in central London please?

Shamelessly posting for traffic (sorry!!)

Going for lunch in London next week with a friend, and they'd like to go to an Indian restaurant.

AIBU to ask if anyone knows of any nice and reasonable-ish Indian restaurants around central London please? The only one I've heard of is Gymkhana, and I'm fairly sure that's out of my budget 😂

Thanks so much everyone!

If it doesn't have to be specifically Indian but they want a curry then I would strongly recommend Hopper which is Sri Lankan, not too spendy, and just the best food ever.
(I'm so sorry I know it's not what you asked for but I should be on Hopper's payroll, I would happily eat every meal there).

Woodlands on Leicester Square does amazing South Indian food, if you don't mind it being vegetarian. Very reasonable prices last time I went too (admittedly several years ago). I'm not a veggie but still thoroughly enjoy their food - you don't miss the meat.

Dishoom is lovely but you can't book and Rasa is delicious too. Second Hoppers too.

Another vote for Rasa here - the most delicious South Indian and Kerala food, you must try the dosas. Quite reasonable prices and just off Oxford Street.

I was going to say Dishoom as well, it's in Kings Cross and is excellent. Don't know about booking although I do recall when we went we hadn't booked but got in pretty quick.

Quilon, Buckingham Gate, near Victoria. I haven't been yet but friends rave about it.

Benares is also amazing though expensive - they do a two course set menu at lunchtime for £39 though which is quite reasonable for a Michelin starred place.

Dishoom also v nice (they have several different restaurants in Covent Garden, Shoreditch etc) though it's best for breakfast IMO!

Chutney Mary and Benares are both really lovely. They can be expensive but often there is a set lunch menu or a special offer through toptable website.

The Cinnamon Club is great and in a very good setting. I'm a fan of Gymkhana but appreciate your earlier comment!

The Rajdoot in Marylebone is excellent, about 25 minute walk form Covent Garden. Chettinad in Percy Street also good local Indian type - both good value for money. Dishoom is great but you will have to queue at the weekend unless you are prepared to eat completely out of standard hours. If you are near Borough Market then Mango Tree or Simply Indian are great. Simply Indian unlicensed so you can take your own drink from Tescos round the corner!

Dishoom is great, but you can't book, other than for large parties, so only try there if you don't mind the possibility of queuing. It's Zoroastrian (so curry with an Iranian influence) and I really recommend the Chicken Ruby if you end up there.

Dishoom! But you have to queue.

@PamplemousseRouge

When you have enough suggestions, would you consider asking MNHQ to move this to the London topic (so it's easier to find, for those of us who like looking back at recommendations when we want to try somewhere new)?

Rasa just off Oxford Street is my fav, and not too expensive either. Dishoom is nice too, but as pp poster said, if you’re booking now for next week you might find that they’re all fully booked.

Quilon on Buckingham Gate is absolutely perfect, I love it.

Hoppers is great but you can't book. Get there at 12 and you won't have a long wait.

Khan's in Westbourne Grove? But maybe that's not central enough.

Gymkhana is the best of the best, I'd say.
Won restaurant of the year a few years back.
Need a reservation and is expensive.

Also like Dishoom.
