AIBU?

To be very annoyed at MOT centre

MOT garage picked up my car this morning. Due to sharing it with DD, it has a black box. I didn't mention this as I didn't think the garage would be stupid enough to speed in my car. Hmm

Yet have just looked at the black box app on my phone-

  • lowest possible speed rating (meaning they have sped)
  • another journey made to a town centre a few miles away from MOT centre(during lunch so I expect they've used my car to go to Maccies or something!)
  • another low rating for speed on the way back

So now my driving score on the app has dropped substantially, I'll get less cashback this month and they've used my petrol for driving somewhere other than the MOT centre.

Would I be a bitch to complain or am I being rational? Grin

FWIW the app is accurate and well calibrated... You also have to go over the limit by 5% to trigger the warning for speed!

Cheeky bastards! I’d be knocking whatever money you’ll lose off the bill.

Of course you should complain!!

They don’t need to drive your car for an MOT. I’m giessing you already know this. Regardless of the speed rating issues there’s no conceivable reason for them to have driven it in the test. If you look at VOSA guidelines for testing, driving does not form part of it. So yes, you’re totally within your rights to complain without the issues surrounding the black box. Unless of course it was having a service as well?

Gosh I'd be furious! I would definitely complain and now before they speed again bringing it back! Is there anyway of telling the black box people it wasn't you driving?

Bloody hell id be furious! Is it a chain or independent?

I can tell the black box people, just might take a few weeks as there customer service is shite. Grin

It was just an MOT. I can't afford both at the same time! Service is due in January. With a different garage.

blodplod OP says the garage picked up her car, so presumably they would have had to drive it then?

Definitely complain! That's outrageous!

Absolutely rational.

Blodplod, thats not strictly true. If the vehicle is a 4x4 not all brake tester rollers can be used to test efficiency therefore a Tapley meter or Decelerometer is used which need the vehicle to be driven.

However, speeding in a customers vehicle is not acceptable.

I would take pleasure in asking them if they went anywhere in the car as the seat was adjusted or something and when they deny it go oh really well have you heard of a black box!!! Wankers!

Of course you should complain!

Sorry! Didn’t pick up on the collecting car issue (was enraged on Op’s behalf) - user12346 - yes you’re right if a 4x4 but it literally needs to be driven metres.. not to town centre and back. The length of a small yard is enough to test.

Cheeky, cheeky bastards. I'd very definitely complain, get your money back in full plus any extra charges you have incurred because of this, and then leave them bad reviews everywhere.

Well they're supposed to be bringing the car back soon. Not sure if I should say something to the person who drives it back (might not be the same guy) or whether to complain to higher up. I'm not good with face to face confrontation anywhere. I struggle to send a cold meal back to a restaurant kitchen, let alone confront burly mechanics on my doorstep. Blush

A strongly worded letter is more my style.

Kick off. An MOT test doesn't require a road test.
It shouldn't have been off the carpark.

Complain that’s terrible.

Christmasgrinchthesecond · 05/12/2017 13:47

With the app I can see every individual journey made, the score for it and the current location of the car. They rang and said it was coming home about five minutes ago but has not physically moved on my map showing where it is!

No, NOT a letter. Ring service reception now and speak to them. Today.

Did it fail requiring repairs, requiring road test?

Report
ivenoideawhatimdoing · 05/12/2017 13:50

That's awful - what if they had crashed?! Are they even insured to take it on little spins? I don't imagine they have anything beyond third party with Business Insurance!

Ring them. Jeez I'll ring em for you (I love a good argument)
