Do I hate it or is it the unfortunate effect of every junior school choir in the county murdering it at this time of year?

It's difficult to sing well, I think. Jumps all over the shop. In fact, I don't really like it.

TovaGoldCoin Mon 04-Dec-17 21:34:37

I can belt it out. It's a bit high for me, and my 4 year olds have started to copy my awful 'reaching' for.. Bells of... Heaven... Bit blush

choirconflicted Mon 04-Dec-17 21:35:03

Seems to be sung in an American accent as well.

DrMadelineMaxwell Mon 04-Dec-17 21:37:17

I used to love playing that at school for the children to sing. smile

Very tricky to sing properly.

choirconflicted Mon 04-Dec-17 21:39:27

The words are very pretty, I think they redeem it.

Hiphopopotamus Mon 04-Dec-17 21:40:35

Written by an English songwriter - no need for any American accent

choirconflicted Mon 04-Dec-17 21:42:58

I didn't know that!

Sentimentallentil Mon 04-Dec-17 21:44:33

Is that the one that goes ‘earthlings sleeping, sleeping calm and still’

I can never get over the word earthling.

RobotGoat Mon 04-Dec-17 21:45:04

I love it! But then, I have memories of a lovely version by a professional choir; never heard it sung by school children. Maybe that would colour my perspective grin

picklemepopcorn Mon 04-Dec-17 21:47:12

Sentimentali, Earth lay sleeping! The earthlings were partying wildly with the shepherds, if I remember correctly.

It was my favourite song to sing when i was in primary school.

I still like it.

choirconflicted Mon 04-Dec-17 21:50:41

Earthlings 😂😂😂

A new take on the traditional!

Sentimentallentil Mon 04-Dec-17 21:51:41

Ahhhhhhh ‘earth lay sleeping’

Yes that makes much more sense.

(Continues to sing earthling)

Talith Mon 04-Dec-17 21:52:09

When I was growing up dahn saaff it was 'King of All the Weld'.

GrandDesespoir Mon 04-Dec-17 21:53:37

Seems to be sung in an American accent as well.

I grew up in Scotland where it always ends, "King of all the wurr-olld!"

Mine too! I have such fond memories of it. I've been listening and singing along in the car already this year

GrandDesespoir Mon 04-Dec-17 21:55:05

Talith grin

BaffledMummy Mon 04-Dec-17 21:55:17

I’m not a sentiment type but every time I hear it I cry. I have tried singing it as a festive lullaby to the DC a few times and ended up blubbing! What is wrong with me?! I do really love it (gets nostalgic)

Grimmfebruary Mon 04-Dec-17 21:55:29

I prefer starry night to we three kings. I still haven't recovered from dentention 10 years ago when my friend started bellowing the well known alternative version with one on his scooter, tooting his hooter.

frenchfancy81 Mon 04-Dec-17 21:55:52

Earth lay sleeping...

4minions Mon 04-Dec-17 21:56:39

YABU I love it, brings a tear to my eye every year.

MaidOfStars Mon 04-Dec-17 21:57:24

Ah, I’m not religious not a carol fan but if I had to name one to be a favourite, this would be a contender.

Ilovehamabeads Mon 04-Dec-17 21:57:25
