Driving phobia confidence issue

In Feb this year I felt unwell driving and went home. The same thing happened again and I developed a phobia of roundabouts!!
Having driven for 32 years I had to take the bus which still made me anxious.
Lots.of little practice drives have resulted in me being OK or unable to return home.
When I'm with Dh I'm OK as he can take over in theory.
I was referred for counselling then df died so I couldn't do the coursework.
Is my problem.something that could be sorted by a driving instructor or a psychologist? Has anyone overcome this?

You should emigrate to the USA. I have driven there on numerous occasions, albeit, it was 15 years ago when I last did some driving there. My point is, I never once encountered a roundabout there.

Get a recommendation for a local driving instructor to go out with you, you’ll feel more comfortable & a good instructor will help you with your confidence and build it up. I’m currently learning to drive & have to a good instructor who is working on my confidence especially with roundabouts as I have to use quite a few large ones on duel carriageways where I live. But I’m getting used to them & it does feel easier now.

I had a phobia of escalators for over 10 years which is a pain in London! I was able to get over it with practice & support from family & friends. I still remember the fear of them but found techniques that helped me overcome them. Music helped me stop overthinking, so you may just need to find a technique that works for you.

Thank you bunbun.I was unsure if an instructor would be a good idea as I can drive and I guess the problem is psychological...I will ask my D's instructor.

Maybe drive through the roundabouts time and time again with a driving instructor? I read about someone who was on the Hawaiian airplane whose roof was scaled off, and she got over the event by taking flying lessons herself, flying around over and in the same airspace and route that the plane had taken. (Googled it, it was the "Aloha Airlines Flight 243" event).
