Neighbours opposite with flashy blue Christmas lughts

Draping Icicles dangling from their roof, bright blue, and flashing. 24. Hours. A. Day.
I don’t care during the day, I don’t care too much in the evening... but when it’s the middle of the night and you think there is a constant police car outside it is starting to grate on me!!!!!!!

AIBAS (Am I being a Scrooge) to ask them to turn them off when they go to bed?!

Many years ago I cut the wires of the flashing lights on a neighbours house. When they replaced them another neighbour did it again.

Not sorry. They lit the road up like Times Square and flashed into everyones windows all night long. They were ugly, tacky, irritating and dangerous.

I live across from someone with lights triggered by movement. Bright safety lights. Year 'round. I'm tempted to ask if they would make it more seasonal.

Are you me op? I feel a bit jittery as the flashing is quite random giving a slightly strobe like effect. The blue is also deeply annoying as it gives a daylight kind of light. They also play very quiet tinny Christmas music from one of the decorations. Just loud enough to catch your ear iyswim

I am just gritting my teeth for the month like I did last year. They do turn them off in the day though.

I think asking them to turn them off when they go to bed would not be unreasonable.

Shears, if I recall correctly. I was a little worried I would electrocute myself but it was worth the risk, and nothing happened.

No our curtains are not thick at all 😭
They are on the list but we moved in not too long ago and our room is the very last to be done so have our old curtains and they are not lined. It’s a massive bay so not easy to pick up a charity shop bargain either.

These went up bang on 1.12 so I’m assuming they’ll last into the new year!

You should live in South East London. We have flashing blue lights outside 24/7 365 day’s a year!

They can cause a variety of different seizures. And play havoc with your sleep.

Can you knock on and tell them?

Just tell them for goodness sake! We always used to decorate our house and used to leave the lights on overnight because it was easier. A neighbour came over and said she couldn't sleep and could we please turn them off overnight. We said yes, sorry, no problem.

This is my worst nightmare, I hate christmas lights and all the flashing, if it were keeping me from sleeping i'd be murderous.

Rather than resorting to the shears, could you suggest they put the bloody things on a timer???

Our local council asked someone in our (old) road to turn them off at 11 each night

Could you get an eye mask and sleep with that on? I once had to sleep with ear plugs due to dog constantly barking. Annoying but it wouldn’t stop so I had to find a way to sleep. Hope something works op x

Can you buy them a timer switch, programme them to turn off at 10/11pm and take it round as a neighbourly gift?

Buy ready made black out curtain linings. They’re very cheap and do the job. You’re supposed to attach them to curtains but they work on their own.

Eye masks and ask them.to turn the lights off, they could affect people driving, people with epilepsy.

DH and I were discussing this today. If you have the lights on the outside of your house you don't actually see them yourself.
DH said they must be for everyone else to enjoy. I was . It depends if you enjoy migraine inducing blue flashing lights I suppose.

Leaving Christmas lights on ALL night is really inconsiderate.
Why should the OP have to used thicker curtains?

You have my sympathy OP.

Although I can cope with the flashy blue lights.

It's the flashy rainbow garden lights that are on all year round, I had to double up on the curtains to block the constant flashiness out for DD; and that's when the wildlife haven't triggered the security light that can be seen from sodding space.
