Me and dh were talking today and were saying what we would do if we won the lottery buy a new house holidays ect.

Now, that's a pretty normal conversation to have I know. But it's stuck in my head all day and I have literally now written a list of what I will do when I win the lottery Hmm feel a bit crazy now ìve written it out like it actually happened

Has anyone else ever done this as seriously as me? What would you do if you won?

If I won- I would.
Buy the flat I currently live in and the one underneath. Kick all 3 flatmates out. One doesn’t actually live here. One is a PITA and the other I would rehouse downstairs Grin subject to him helping me with moving my stuff around in my flat ( flats are worth about 450,000 so not a bad deal)

I would then book a nice holiday for summer holidays and go into work as if nothing had happened. Might buy my boyfriend a car too. Depends how much I won and how generous I’m feeling

What I would do is

Quit my job immediately - I hate it so I wouldn't need much pushing

Buy I new bigger house for me dp and dd - not too big but bigger that our tiny 2 bed
Buy dp a new nice car
Pay off my mum's mortgage and give her enough to comfortably live off
Go on some nice holidays
Live happily ever after with dp dd and the other children we would now be able to afford Grin

I haven't written it down except on these threads. Depending on size

  • make sure family/close friends are fine and donate to a couple of charities

For myself put aside some savings so I don't have to worry as much about care homes
if there is lots left

  • buy a new smart tv
  • get some clothes that would really fit, which means made to measure
  • buy a house, currently live in a flat and feel overlooked

I start to fantasise about a lottery win as I'm trying to fall asleep.

But then I start to think about it far too hard and I'm playing interior design options and amazing holidays through my head so I can't sleep.

I do this at least once a week.

The best I have ever heard, and it is supposed to be true, is of a lottery winner who bought the company he worked for and then called security to escort his manager off his premises.
I might never win but is is nice to dream

I have a list in my head of people I'd give money to if I ever won the lottery.

I do this all the time, particularly when the ridiculously huge Euromillions jackpots crop up like this week. I think it's about £85 million on Tuesday. If I won that I'd set up some kind of charitable foundation and give most of it away via that. Nobody needs that amount of money themselves, it's insane. I would sort out family and friends and buy a house with land etc. I'd have a baby pretty soon and have lots of dogs and horses and I'd build DP his own research lab as that's his dream. After that it would be travel, family stuff and managing the charity foundation forevermore. Sigh!

I would buy a villa in Ibiza and laze round for the rest of my life. Already picked the school my children would go to there so no, OP, you are not alone.

Hire a cleaner.
Hire a laundryperson
Hire a nanny for a couple of days a week so that OH and I could have a sensible adult conversation without screeching kids butting in constantly.
By a new TV that doesn't have shitty sound quality so I can turn subtitles off.
Find a charity that supports the rohingya Muslims in Burma and give them a fat wodge of cash. I heard a radio interview with a woman who had just about managed to escape, and I sat in the car and cried, it was beyond awful what she had been through and she had no one left.
Buy my DD a giant jellycat bunny.
Book an amazing holiday for next summer.

I would buy intensive driving lessons for my mum and a friend of mine and a car each so they don't have to rely on transport.
Buy a house in the little town I live in so I'm out of rental.
That's the first things I can think of

If I won Euro millions on Tues I would firstly move into the Shard with nothing more than my toothbrush and passport. I might take my son, depending on if he's being a brat or not 😀. The concierge would then arrange personal shoppers/trainer/stylist etc. Nose job would be on the cards as would some new teeth. My Mum gets whatever she wants (large farm in north Portugal with rescue animals etc etc). I've always wanted to fly a helicopter so would train as a pilot. Then I'd make a whacking great contribution to Sea Shepherd who would take me and helicopter to international waters off the coast of Japan. I'd then spend my time using grappling hooks and helicopter combo to disrupt Dolphin and Whale hunting in Taiji Cove. Yes. I have spent tooooo much time thinking about this??!!

Depends on the size of the win but if it was super substantial..

Pay off my debts
Buy a lovely 4 bed house in Kent with a big garden
Also buy a ‘crash pad’ flat in central London for nights out/weekends there Grin
Pay off parents’ mortgages, give siblings money for a house each
Travel around the world
Set up weekly deliveries to local food banks
Set up monthly deliveries of essentials and toys for local women’s shelter
Set up an Alzheimer’s specific care home locally (we really struggled finding adequate care for my gran that wasn’t miles away)
Get regular blowdrys, nail appointments, massages etc

New houses built from scratch built for all my family.
Good private school for my son.
A massive donation to my sons local scout group.
I would pay for the immune blood tests (Chicago tests) of every couple at Care Sheffield Fertility who were suffering from implantation failure and recurrent miscarriage and pay for one cycle of IVF with whatever immune treatment they needed (if they needed it).

I would then split the rest between us, my son, my DPs, my DILs and sisters on both sides.

Obvs I'm aiming to win big.

I think it would be really stressful to win loads of money, the pressure to do something worthwhile and help the right people etc.

I would like enough to finish refurbishing the house, replace the cars every 5 yrs and afford to retire at 50. Half a million would cover that, for us. I wouldn't want to stop working as I like my job, plus I doubt OH will ever retire, money or no money.

Ooh I love doing these kinds of wishlists

Lovely big house with lots of rooms and a big garden
Holiday home
Maybe second holiday home just for a bit of variety
Naice car for DH
Book my driving test and take some lessons while I'm waiting so that I pass it with flying colours
Decent enough car for me
Wardrobe of clothes for all the family
Furnish the main house with vair nice beds, chairs, sofas
Couple of 'bucket list' holidays and mini breaks

All inclusive holiday for mam, wherever she'd like
Six weekends away for her so she can look forward to them
Enough money for dad to retire early

Cash for siblings so they can choose what they'd like eg, home improvement, new car, holiday

Enough money put away to give DC a good start with whatever they want to do

Other than donating to various charities that's the big stuff covered. Just some Wine then to share with my lovely MN friends Xmas Grin

Buy a flat in London for my DS, nothing flashy but nice.
Be able to pay uni fees for my DD (if she gets the grades) and help both.

I probably wouldn't buy another property, just stay in hotels in London and rent cottages in others.

Help all the rescue organisations I follow with their spay/neuter programmes so the numbers of unwanted dogs/cats are reduced. Would fund campaigns against puppy farming and children's educational programmes about animals.

Would buy up all those derelict properties that should have been looked after by councils, do them up and then rent them to families, their reasonable rent would be their mortgage payments.

I'd also buy some properties, with support workers, for homeless people and their dogs!

Buy a big house in the country
Buy a Range Rover
Give my DC 2000 each
Keep an amount (not sure how much) to pay for DS1 to be cured of CF if they ever find out how.

Oh, no parents to look after anymore unfortunately, but I'd help some friends by giving them sums of money.

And I'd give a donation to the local charity that provides low cost counselling. It's my one hour a week where I can talk to someone completely honestly about my feelings.

-set up a education trust fund for all nieces and nephews and our dd. Not to be touched till their 18
-buy dpil a house they like
-pay for my parents to go to Venice (mums dream) by train
  • they we put a certain million or two into the bank then carefully without anyone knowing use the rest to help people. The plans here can vvv exciting.

It's really sad how many of the things on people's lists are completely doable without a lottery win. In many cases without even having to spend much money at all. I feel really sad now for people posting who want to do really lovely things but think they need a lottery win before they can do them. The 100 dollar startup is a good place to start.
