Missing parcels

Mumsnut · 30/11/2017 19:57

In the last month, parcels from Next (2), Asos and Zara have all gone missing - supposedly delivered to my house, but no cards left, no knocks on the door.

The Asos and Zara parcels were both handled by Hermes. Does anyone know who delivers for Next? The tracking info didn't say.

Hermes I think.

Probably depends where you’re located but here in NE Kent it’s Hermes or DPD

Hermes for Next normally.

I know that Hermes deliver for John Lewis and I’ve been in touch with JL complaining that Hermes just drop and run; they NEVER ring the bell and just leave the parcel/s on the doorstep with a (why?) ‘ sorry we missed you’ card. Even if we are clearly in. Amazon do the same.
Sorry, but I don’t know who delivers for Next. I do all my shopping online and the only courier I rate is DPD.

Oh. Not really surprised.

So here's my AIBU:

  • am I unreasonable to ask Hermes for a list of the retailers they deliver for, so I can avoid ordering from them? I'm sick of this. I'd like to get a lock on Christmas, but no chance at the current rate of awol.

Hermes are by far the worst in my area with the possible exception of Yodel, and yes Hermes do deliver for Next, unfortunately. The driver on our round is extremely rude, careless, and also a liar.

Allwashedup · 30/11/2017 20:14

YANBU to ask them who they deliver for but I know they do a lot of the big companies e.g. Next, John Lewis, Simply Be. Would rather go to the shop than have anything to do with Hermes.

John Lewis click & collect delivers to Waitrose - pick up in supermarket hours, so easy.

i am almost at that stage with fucking Yodel, the only problem is they sneak in under the radar, I ordered somethign from QVC who DO NOT use yodel, but as it was an item that came from the manufacturer Yodel got their lying paws on it

I had an email and a text promising delivery and the same to say it had been delivered "through my letterbox" **
Several attempts to start a "where is my parcel" chat failed
when i did get through the guy promised to interview the driver, and get back to me within 24 hours. Ten days later and I am still waiting

Two days later that parcel and another were left in my shed.
I still have no email or message pertaining to the second parcel, and the first parcel was in a box about nine times wider than anyones letterbox.

It is infuriating.

I shop almost exclusively online. IME Hermes are particularly rubbish, DPD excellent, anyone else a bit blah. Always gutted if I see someone has used Hermes. Amazon Prime del now two days late (Hermes tracking - sigh).

So OP I failed to answer your question I apologise. Next for me is either unmarked van man (yay he's great) or Hermes (no they're rubbish). Good luck. Sorry not more help.

Hermes are bloody awful I had something delivered the other day and he just left it on the doorstep and went didn't even ring the bell I was in the house only realised when the dog barked!

I sympathise OP. I complained so much about Hermes to a company I get a subscription box from that they actually changed my account so that my boxes are now delivered by Royal Mail. I'm currently waiting for a parcel from H&M that I have asked to be delivered to a click & collect point (my local co-op which is open 7am-10pm) and when I tracked the parcel it said delivery had been "attempted" at 4pm today. Am I supposed to believe there was no-one I'm the shop to take it? Angry

If you want to get somewhere with Hermes, then social media is your best option. I use Twitter but I suspect Facebook would be an option too?

I'm not excusing them but I saw a programme about Hermes drivers once & it looked crap, they can't make much money doing it.
Came across this when I was trying to find it online www.theguardian.com/money/2016/jul/18/life-as-a-hermes-driver-they-offload-all-the-risk-on-to-the-courier

Well, they've refused to give me a list. But I can work on the basis that Next, Asos and Zara are high risk for me, I suppose.

Hermes poor here too, If parcels arrive they are often bashed up.

I've had an M&S beauty advent calendar go astray this year. Gutted. By the time I chased it they were out of stock, and I was really looking forward to a lovely treat for myself after a terrible year of awful health.

It's probably been sold on in a pub somewhere, there must be quite a market in it around here.

Oh oh... I just had one of those 'chats/interview the driver' with Yodel and they promised to deliver tomorrow. Was it all a lie I wonder...

Dpd are fantastic I find. Always send a txt with a 2 hour delivery slot on the day it's due.

To be fair I like our local Hermes driver. She delivers a subscription box each month and is pretty good. Another guy brought something earlier on this week too and it was fine.

Our royal mail is a pita though. They come anytime between 9am and 5pm so if you are due a parcel and want to waìt in you could be sat all day. Then if you miss it and it goes to the sorting office it's a nightmare getting parked near it and often long queues.

There are 3 visitor parking spots. And no where else to park really. It's on an industrial estate and the road full of parked cars for nearby businesses. But at the back of the sorting office a huge, mostly empty staff car park. It's empty the times the sorting.office is open as it is where the.post office vans live and they are all out delivering so why they can't allow the public to use it when collecting parcels I don't know. Will be due to insurance but they ought to pay extra as the set up they have is prettt bad.

I’ve had some nightmares with Hermes recently. Contacting them on Twitter seems to work, I really feel for the people managing that account as it’s just a constant stream of complaints. They have managed to get me some answers though.

chrys2017 I don't actually think they even attempted delivery when they said they had actually delivered
so there is time for you yet!

...I raked through all the tracking pages on a my laptop and on my phone

different dates, times, parcel locations on each device using the same tracking number ....one set of details claimed they had both delivered and unsuccessfully attempted delivery on the same day.
Also they somehow posted it (**remember the aforementioned GIANT parcel???) through the (small but perfectly average) letterbox before the parcel was even arrived at the local delivery hub

yodel are liars. mostly.

I'm a postie for royal mail. I come across Hermes parcels on doorsteps all the time. I handed a lady two parcels that were soaked on her doorstep from the previous night and she didn't even know they were there.
Hermes deliver next parcels and just leave them on doorsteps or over garden fences.

It's shocking
You have probably got a thief who keeps an eye out for Hermes parcels at your door now.
You do get people who go around this time of year to check sheds and cupboards attached to houses for parcels left.
Royal mail is no Angel but we are only allowed to leave with a neighbour or bring back to delivery office.
