Cup of tea for 12yo

As the title suggests is this U?

My 12yo ds is on his way home from school and it's freezing, has snowed all day. He doesn't like hot chocolate. Want to make him a nice warm drink for when he gets in.

Apologies for the most mundane question ever.

I'm not a tea drinker but my brother had a child sized cup of milky tea with his breakfast from the age of about 3 and it did him no harm!

AmySueGina Thu 30-Nov-17 15:35:01

Are you asking if it's U to give a 12 year old tea?

grin

Of course not but if you didn't want to give him tea what about a hot squash. God I used to love that.

Actually I'm off to get myself one now grin

Chunkymonkey123 Thu 30-Nov-17 15:35:34

Does he like tea? If not hot squash, hot juice, but I really can't see the AIBU?

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar Thu 30-Nov-17 15:35:42

It's fine (assuming he likes it!) Add chocolate biscuits and he'll love you forever (I would anyway!)

InDubiousBattle Thu 30-Nov-17 15:36:01

My sister's kids had tea in their sippy cups from 2.

Evelynismyspyname Thu 30-Nov-17 15:36:06

At 12? Totally fine. How do you know he likes tea, if you're asking whether it's ok for a 12 year old?

TheEricaOlthwaiteGang Thu 30-Nov-17 15:36:16

No. I don't think so.

My ds is 15 and has just started having the odd cup of tea. He also likes a peppermint tea.

I'm 47 and have been drinking tea since the age 2 and coffee at least since the age of 10. Seems very odd now but doesn't seem to have harmed me ... yet grin

AmySueGina Thu 30-Nov-17 15:36:27

amused One day when I was about 2, I was being a little bastard bothering my mum for some of her tea. So she made me a cup, extra strong in the hope I'd hate it.

I fucking loved it and I was on about six cups a day by the age of five grin and still am.

WhereYouLeftIt Thu 30-Nov-17 15:36:33

Has he ever drank tea? Been offered it? (I can remember drinking tea when I was about 8.)

TabbyMumz Thu 30-Nov-17 15:37:01

Of course you can. My child has had the odd cup of tea from about age six. He's turned out fine.

hellsbellsmelons Thu 30-Nov-17 15:37:04

Hot Ribena - yummy.
But tea is fine, if he likes it.
Does he like hot milk?

mumtomaxwell Thu 30-Nov-17 15:37:58

My 9 yr old DS had a cup of tea in Costa as a reward after standing in the freezing cold in just his cub uniform on rememberance Sunday! He especially loved the little tea pot smile

everythingtwinklesatxmas Thu 30-Nov-17 15:38:46

Yes I am, it's really never occurred to me before, my go to has always been hot chocolate but all of a sudden he doesn't like it.

Hot squash is a good idea, dh drinks that when he's not feeling well.

TabbyMumz Thu 30-Nov-17 15:38:53

You will get people on here that will make out its worse than poison, but just ignore them.

IHaveBrilloHair Thu 30-Nov-17 15:39:09

Of course it's fine

everythingtwinklesatxmas Thu 30-Nov-17 15:40:15

Not sure why my username has changed the op was an old one :/ random

reallybadidea Thu 30-Nov-17 15:41:30

It's tea, not crack.

everythingtwinklesatxmas Thu 30-Nov-17 15:42:25

Sorry, the aibu is related to his age.

I don't know if he'd like it but it's a pretty inoffensive hot drink with milk and two sugars.

LaurieMarlow Thu 30-Nov-17 15:43:00

Why would this not be fine?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar Thu 30-Nov-17 15:43:35

What are you afraid of? If it's caffeine; there's probably more in a bar of chocolate...

soupforbrains Thu 30-Nov-17 15:44:31

I second the suggestion for hot ribena it's amazing.

But also there's nothing wrong with tea for a 12 year old. My irish family used to make tea using hot milk for the kids. Sacrilege in terms of the sanctity of tea, but fine for the kids.

iMatter Thu 30-Nov-17 15:45:06

My kids have been drinking the odd cup of tea since they were about 5.

Earl Grey, English breakfast, whatever is on offer.

A couple of rich tea biscuits to dunk makes it even better. smile

bettybyebye Thu 30-Nov-17 15:46:55

My 2 and 5 year olds regularly drink tea! I buy decaf anyway so happy for them to have a cup

Cutesbabasmummy Thu 30-Nov-17 15:47:39

My nearly 3 year old loves tea! He drinks mine if he can get hold of it!! Obviously if it's really hot I keep it out of his reach!
