More of a WWYD as well as AIBU.

An agency rang me to put me forward for a new job. This was on Monday. I said yes please. About 1pm I got am email to ask me to log on to do an o line test and it must be back by 5pm Hmm.

I emailed her that night stating that I'm ever so sorry that I wasn't able to complete the test. I had never heard of this test so I googled it and it stated I needed a quiet place for at least an hour and you're timed on your answers and you will need a PC with a mouse.

I explained I don't have the time at such short notice as I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old plus I don't have a PC but I assured her from what Google stated I can do all they're asking etc and would they see me based on my CV anyway

That night I had an email stating they wanted to see me on Thu.

Tue I rang for a time and more info on the job and company.

The woman said she had no further Info but her colleague would ring me Wed but can I meet at bla bla at 12 on Thu.

I organised kids etc for this.

Today I have had two phone calls. One changing the interview location. It's further away and a pain to get to and this isnt the job location. I agreed and changed kids times etc. Then another call. Can I do a pre Skype interview this afternoon. I said I couldn't as i had 2 kids here. She then said ok come into the office 30 mins early then.
So I have now arranged the kids yet again. It's gone from a casual chat at 12 which is 10 mims from me to 45 mins each way. 30 mins pre Interview and another intervorw with the MD as well as the agency.

She has now sent an email. Can I stay after the interview to do the test.

I have googled the company after asking some questions and he has been MD to 73 companies and resigned from 33. This business is a new one and not only will I be office manager they're asking me to be a PA tooHmm

So AIBU to tell them it's not for me. Seems disorganised and I worry I won't have a job for long. WWUD.

Thanks

Regretfully you have to decline. If they really push tell them that you are looking to work for an established company not a start-up.

Just email that you won't be going, they sound awfully unorganised - i'd be worried that he was a fraudster or that you will work for a month and then won't get paid.

Yea I am concerned too. 73 companies. Is he a multiple bankrupt. Alot of the companies have simular names. It's Terribly difficult as I need to get this right as I will have to pay for child care for 2 kids and it could be costly if it doesn't work out. I can't fathom if it's the agency or the company that's disorganised or a bit of both. Also I've never heard of an MD interviewing people. Not unless it's for a job very high up. Apparently it's him and me. So maybe I am deputy Grin

I’d reply with what you know and your situation and explain that you need some convincing.

I wouldn’t bother, unless this agency has a lot of good leads on other jobs that you might want and you need to keep the agency onside, in which case go along for the interview practice and if offered the job come up with a plausible reason to decline.

Shouldi this job isn't in West Sussex is it? Sounds familiar!

No it's not in West Sussex but they may be holding back this information Smile

I've emailed and stated it all seemed a bit haphazard are really not for me and thanking them.

I often wonder if agents hold grudges Confused

Probably- some do get huffy but that performance doesn't really fill you with confidence for long term stable employment! Keep looking and hopefully you find something great soon!

If they strop, you can remind them, as mildly or as forcefully as you like, that they'd be risking their commission if you had to leave.

I'd completely ditch this.

It's almost as if someone is trying to gauge exactly how easy it will be to mess you about.

Surely not, @Footle!
