... because Coronation Street hasn't finished - it's got three minutes to go Hmm

Is my friend being unreasonable to feel a bit put out?

(Posting this for her as she's not yet an MNer)

Sounds like my sister YANBU
this drives me potty.

TheStoic · 25/11/2017 11:27

Is it urgent? Is someone dying? In real life, I mean, not on coronation street.

Neverender · 25/11/2017 11:28

I’m with your Mum - no one calls me during EastendersSmile

Aridane · 25/11/2017 11:28

That is my Mum down to a tee!! I now check whether Coronation Street is on before phoninh

SandyDenny · 25/11/2017 11:28

I wouldn't mind, don't people know better than to phone their Mum during a programme they watch?

Unless is a dire emergency why doesn't she phone back when it's ended? Of course she doesn't want to miss the end

flumpybear · 25/11/2017 11:30

My brother used to do this when top gear was on .... he wouldn’t even move to anser if the motor racing is on

meredintofpandiculation · 25/11/2017 11:30

Def NU to say "I can't talk at the moment, can I ring you back?" Usually best not to give a specific reason - people either get offended, or they try to argue with you and explain to you how it would be very easy for you to do what they want.

Glumglowworm · 25/11/2017 11:32

But why can't your friend wait three minutes? Is it an urgent call or just a chat?

Obviously if it's "mum I'm in labour" then yanbu but if it's more like "what are you doing this week" then yabu

TheAntiBoop · 25/11/2017 11:32

Can't she talk to dad for the three minutes?

liminality · 25/11/2017 11:33

Who annoys someone during their favourite show? I would totally ignore the phone when watching my faves

WunWun · 25/11/2017 11:34

Would your friend want to be interrupted three mins before the end of a program or film she loves?

sunshinesupermum · 25/11/2017 11:36

I wouldn't answer phone if it rung during a favourite programme either. If OP's friend knows her Mum watches certain soaps regularly as many of us do lol then hold off phoning until later?

Ginkypig · 25/11/2017 11:38

Ffs what's the problem.

Is there an emergency? No? Right well just phone back.

Would it be ok to wait if the mum was eating, in the toilet, answering the door, if yes then why can't it wait until her prog is finished.

ShirleyPhallus · 25/11/2017 11:40

Not a big deal

I also don’t understand people who post on behalf of others. Especially about such tiny non-issues

MrsWembley · 25/11/2017 11:40

I love getting honest answers Grin

Can't see a problem unless the call was urgent. People are allowed to enjoy TV.

MrsWembley · 25/11/2017 11:43

Apparently my post is misleading and her DSDad shouldn't have answered the phone in the first place, which I agree with...
OP posts:
TheStoic · 25/11/2017 11:44

Why shouldn’t he have answered?

Ginkypig · 25/11/2017 11:49

So she couldn't have passed the time of day with him for a few minutes?

TheAntiBoop · 25/11/2017 11:49

Why can't she talk to her dad?

Does she think people only call for her mum?

She sounds even more like a brat!!

FittonTower · 25/11/2017 11:50

My mum doesn't talk on the phone during The Archers. It's 15 minutes, I think we can allow her that time every day and just call back later

MrsWembley · 25/11/2017 11:50

Lots of back story (hers, not going into it) but it is the sort of straw breaking the camel's back situation.

I don’t see why she answered the phone if she didn’t want to talk.

Mind you, I also don’t see why your friend needed you to post it on a message board for her. Joining MN takes about 30 seconds if she really needed to discuss it that badly!

onadifferentplanet · 25/11/2017 11:53

I have done the opposite, knowing my father tends to run on a bit I have rung him 20 minutes before Emmerdale knowing he will cut the conversation so he doesn't miss it!

AlexanderHamilton · 25/11/2017 11:53

My mum is always complaining that her sister without fail phones for a chat 5 mins before the end of her favourite programme.

Of course she shouldn't come to the phone if she doesn't want to unless it's an emergency.

The Dd sounds very needy.
