Aibu to keep supermarket refund ?

I was delivered shopping by one ofthe huge chains the other night, half an hour late at 10.30pm, last on his round. His handheld machine thingy that usually you use to sign was broken, so I signed a hard copy of the receipt , which he kept.

Today Ive been emailed by the supermarket to confirm my refund for he whole shop, it's clearly gone down as not been delivered. I know it's robably wrong to keep the refund but my main thought is he delivery driver - would he, or staff back at the depot , get into trouble if I keep it?
Or would they be more likely to get into trouble if I notify the supermarket?
I honestly have no trouble returning the refund, an geneally honest, I have always told the cashier if given too much on change, for example!

You're effectively asking if it's ok to steal so my answer is yes, you'd be unreasonable to not notify them they've made a mistake

If you’re an honest person why would you even consider keeping the refund, or making this thread? Literally shoplifting your shopping, just seems bummy

Obviously the driver would be in trouble for an undelivered slot. He wouldn’t get into trouble for a broken tool

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 25/11/2017 09:33

I'd return it, I know it's down to a faulty machine but it looks better for a driver!

IslingtonLou · 25/11/2017 09:35

And the staff would notice all the missing stock during their stock take, who do you think would get blamed for your entire shop’s worth of items going ‘missing’?

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 09:37

I would ring them and tell them - you might find it goes out later if his machine was broken, and they'll maybe give you a credit for your honesty.

YellowMakesMeSmile · 25/11/2017 09:37

If you were, as you say, an honest person you wouldn't have posted this thread but would have rang the store and ask them to debit payment.....

What I suspect is you hope to get away with it if MN approves, many don't sanction theft but some will.

FlouncyDoves · 25/11/2017 09:38

Leave it. It’s not theft.

Slartybartfast · 25/11/2017 09:39

thye will probably take the money on monday?

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/11/2017 09:40

This is it acceptable. At some point the driver will let them know it was delivered, and if you try and keep the refund and the shopping they'll find out you're a thief and you'll have to deal with the consequences of that.

YABVU for even thinking of doing it.

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 25/11/2017 09:40

*unacceptable

1099 · 25/11/2017 09:41

I'd ring them and let them know, there's always a chance they'll say don't bother keep it, as it's more trouble taking the payment back than it's worth, and even if they do take it back you haven't lost anything, whereas if you keep it and they come back later saying we realise we made a mistake what will you say "oh yes I hoped you wouldn't notice".

mothergetslippy · 25/11/2017 09:41

Would you go into the supermarket and buy a trolley full of stuff and walk out without paying?

No?

Don't keep it x

JacquesHammer · 25/11/2017 09:41

Of course you would be unreasonable. I can't believe anyone has to ask to be honest.

missiondecision · 25/11/2017 09:44

You can’t be serious?
The driver could be in the shit because you want for free the groceries.... that you ordered!!!!
Outrageous.

BikeRunSki · 25/11/2017 09:44

Head it be refunded because it was late, or refunded as not delivered though? If it’s because it’s the because it’s nit delivered, i’m sure the paperwork will filter through soon enough.

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 09:44

My DD works in a local supermarket and any till shortages or drive offs from the petrol station are deducted from her wages until they are paid for.

asmuchuseasachocolatefireguard · 25/11/2017 09:45

Posted too soon. So the delivery man might be down the cost of your shopping in his wages at the end of the month. That would make me choke on my food as I ate it, to be honest.

PurplePillowCase · 25/11/2017 09:47

yabu
email back, thank the driver for delivery despite the technical difficulties.

if they then still want to refund you, keep it.

Glumglowworm · 25/11/2017 09:47

YABU

if you were as honest as you claim you wouldn't have posted the thread

The driver could get into trouble for not delivering but not returning the goods

dudsville · 25/11/2017 09:47

Are you v hard up? Or do you tend to feel the wored owes you? I can't think why else this would even be a question.

TroubleinDaFamily · 25/11/2017 09:54

I am boggled by threads like these, boggled that people even feel the need to ask whether they should do the right thing. Confused

WeAllHaveWings · 25/11/2017 09:56

If you are honest you wouldnt think twice and would have already been on the phone to sort it out.

I don’t understand, why you are asking the question?

you should phone or email them back to say that you have had the goods. That's what anyone who has any morals at all would do.

KitKat1985 · 25/11/2017 09:59

YABU. You could get the driver in trouble here.

Rainybohoho · 25/11/2017 09:59

I would take the middle line of calling to alert them to their mistake, thus protecting the driver who hasn’t done anything wrong.

However, I would be pushing on the late delivery and now having to take out time to sort out their mistakes, when if you were less honest you could have just kept the refund. It is crap customer service and you will likely end up with keeping the shopping or a goodwill.
