Waitrose delivery man just walked straight in?!

Hello just wanted to hear other peoples thoughts on this. Use Home shopping for food very often, have used all the usual chains such as Ocado, Sainsburys and Asda and decided to give Waitrose a shot with their £20 off your first shop offer...

I booked a early delivery for this morning 7-8am. The guy came within that time, took forever to bring the shopping over from the van to my door, I always order roughly the same amount and I’ve never know it to be this long!

More unnerving was the fact that when he first came I met him at the door he dropped some bags at my step and told me he was off to bring more so I went in closed my front door as I have a toddler running about and a elder son getting ready for school and was standing in my kitchen unloading the bags when he walked straight in the door without knocking which was firmly closed and stood in my hallway with some more bags in his hand.... it made me feel pretty uncomfortable and no other delivery driver has ever done that...

Then I start to smell a lovely aroma of fabric conditioner to see it’s leaked all over a bag of produce which can still be used but all the packaging is slippery and coated in it ... no bottle of fabric conditioner to be seen ..

He informs me on the last bag about the leak and that he is unable to give it to me but he’s going to refund the couple bottles of bleach that he can see have also got covered in the conditioner ... regarding the bag from the kitchen he said take that up with the local branch..

I was expecting Waitrose to be better all round and to be honest they were the worst so far! Even worse than asda and that’s saying something !

Have emailed customer services but surely they aren’t supposed to walk in a closed front door without knocking and without asking ...

I don’t understand the problem? He helped you with your shopping by bringing it into your house and he refunded a damaged item? Poor man is just doing his job please don’t comaplain!

I don't think I would have bothered about this as you knew he was there and you knew he was coming back. He must have wondered why you closed the door and thought he was doing the right thing.

And how can a door be "firmly" closed? Is it not just closed?!

I certainly wouldn't have emailed customer service about it.

I feel a bit sorry for the Waitrose Delivery man. Sad

You had already opened the door to him though? Maybe he thought it had blown shut.
Spillages happen, and I think he handled it well with the no quibble refund.

He obviously thought you were closing the door to keep the cold out. You don’t expect him to wait until you re appear do you?

However the spilt stuff should all be immediately refunded. Ocado are excellent at things like this, all done via the app with no trouble. Highly recommend

I wouldn't expect him to knock again though after you'd already answered and he went back to the van to get more goods. Is that what you mean?

I'd think it was really strange if I answered the door, took part of a delivery and then they knocked again with the rest!

You’re going to get some poor bugger in trouble for that? He must have wondered why you closed the door, did you tell him or were you expecting him to wait on the doorstep with his cap in his hand?

What did you want him to knock again and wait for you to open th unlocked door ?

He isn't just delivering to your house today you know.

Sorry to inform you he has other stuff to do !

Yes he refunded the bleach but regarding the bag with multiple items he just said call the local branch .... 😧 and considering I had met him at the door and said yes that’s fine just drop it to me here I didn’t expect him to then come back over and walk in without knocking. How can a door be firmly shut? Means completely closed 😂

You'd already opened the door. What do you expect the poor bloke to do? Knock again and stand there waiting for m'lady to grant him entrance again? He's there to do a job and he did it. Get a grip.

Absolutely not seeing the problem here... he came into your house (tad off), brought your bags in, informed you there was a damaged items and that he'd have a refund sent for you... and you want to complain?! For what? Confused

Poor guy. Imagine getting complained about for this.

This should be on the thread about the most stupid complaints made.

Report
gamerchick · 23/11/2017 12:27

If he’s just dropped there and left you would have then whinged about the damaged items.

Seriously OP, maybe actually go do your shopping yourself, it doesn’t sound as if you get on with online.

Would he have to knock for each bag? Confused

It would make sense to direct any queries to the branch.

It sounds like a normal delivery situation. He knew that you knew he was there delivering - he didn’t just barge in and surprise you. Why did you feel uncomfortable? You were in the middle of having shopping delivered.

If your door was firmly closed he wouldn't have been able to walk through it. If it wasn't firmly closed, anyone could have walked in. Do you often leave it unlocked?
Isn't it part of their service that they carry it into your house? How many times do you think he should have knocked to do one delivery?
And please don't do the crying with laughter emoji when replying to a perfectly pertinent question, it makes you look a bit thick.

Sounds exactly what Ocado do. Just don't use Waitrose again if you are not happy.

Saying that, it sounds like you have been through a whole lot of delivery services....

I think walking in is fine once you’ve originally opened the door.

It does sound as if there isn't a supermarket delivery service that suits your very particular needs.

I don't think he should have walked in. Most definitely not but I KNEW that people on here would say crap like "Don't be so uptight"

It's blurring lines to walk into a house without a specific invitation and especially if the door was shut!

Would he have to knock for each bag?

That made me laugh! Imagine him handing over one bag, the door is closed, he knocks, he hands over another bag, rinse and repeat Grin
