WWYD- DD demoralised:(

Helllo,

My DD (10) has been attending netball club for 2 years. She loves it and shows promise. Although she had played a couple of tournaments, she is unable to play regular league matches due to my and DH work constraints.

The club have selected a team -its very much once your in your in and the rest have little chance even if they improve! These girls have become clicky and unkind on the remaining children. My DD is the same standard as the core of the team.

My issue is not that she isn't in the team ( that's obviously our problem), Not even the 10 year olds bitching but the training methods,

During training they pick the team versus the rest. Meaning the rest get demolished. I have brought it up (I'm not a serial complainer) with the coaches. I have said as the teams are unfair what are they trying to achieve-no ones learning! The weaker ones get thrashed and the stronger ones get a false sense of being brilliant! Why not even the teams up, play attack versus Defense do they all learn?

My DD is demoralised and cry's as soon as she gets in the car after training! She enjoys the sport but the coaches are ruining it for her.

I did speak to club representative, things changed for a couple of weeks but then it went by to how it was :(

I feel if I mention it again I am 'that' parent- FYI I've never had to complain about anything regarding my children before...

It doesn't sound great - as you say, what's it achieving to have one side always win?

Are there any other clubs nearby?

That sounds crap. Withdraw your dd, find another club for her, and write to the club chairman saying exactly why. Are they affiliated with Netball UK or whatever the club is? They might like to know about crap training practices too.

The cpoach might want the team to play together during coaching so they bond, but surely she can do that for part of the session, not all of it?

I'd be looking for a different club. Why waste time and money on these people if their methods are making your daughter unhappy?

If she just wants a club to train with and not play matches I'd find another club. I've been around clubs for years and this sounds a strange set up. Do you mean there is 1 team in her age group or in the whole club? All the club's I know have mostly everyone in teams and they play in the league the matches their ability level. The training shouldn't be predominantly playing games anyway. There would be fitness training, skills, drills etc. I'd try and find another club.
