AIBU?

AIBU to ask MNHQ if we can have a trans discussion section?

Skarossinkplunger · 21/11/2017 23:45

Out of the first 10 threads showing on my AIBU page 4 of them are trans threads. There is seriously no escaping, please can they have their own board?

I am very interested in the discussion, and agree a separate slot could be helpful to tidy things up right now.

UrsulaPandress · 21/11/2017 23:48

But then the general populace of MN might not be made aware of the issues.

MillicentFawcett · 21/11/2017 23:48

We’ve been through this loads of times before. No.

Skarossinkplunger · 21/11/2017 23:49

Sorry, I didn’t realise this had already been talked about.

No, I’m not BU or No, you don’t want one?

And I do t know what’s wrong with your settings but this is what my aibu looks like

AIBU to ask MNHQ if we can have a trans discussion section?
Skarossinkplunger · 21/11/2017 23:50

Ursula if the general populace of MN isn’t aware by now I don’t think they ever will be.

OP posts:
MillicentFawcett · 21/11/2017 23:51

No I don’t want one. It cuts across so many different areas, it shouldn’t be siloed.

Skarossinkplunger · 21/11/2017 23:51

millicent that screenshot was taken after I posted this thread.

OP posts:
MillicentFawcett · 21/11/2017 23:52

Yes I know that. But I can’t imagine that your page looked vastly different 3 minutes before!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 21/11/2017 23:53

What would it be called?
Gender identity?
It'd be hard to name it, even, without coming out on one side or other of a fence MN probably don't want to pronounce on.

I'd like a section for radical lesbian feminists where every other thread doesn't get derailed by 'oh well I am male and here is why my very long opinion on lesbians' rights' is crucial' and then 20 MNers pandering...
But I don't think that's something acheivable either.

Plus most threads are either in chat or AIBU regardless of whether a proper section exists.

Skarossinkplunger · 21/11/2017 23:54

Millcent It was. I counted them.

Curiositykilledthecat113 · 21/11/2017 23:55

I agree it doesn’t belong in AIBU and frankly I dont want to keep seeing militant feminists droning on about the same scary trans women with penises who want to steal their own right to womenhood. It get’s a bit old after about the 6th thread of the day.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/11/2017 23:58

My AIBU currently two that should be in Health, two in Relationships, one in Christmas...

Without MN I wouldn't be aware that a local Labour party has appointed a 19 yo who identifies as a woman as Women's Officer, after this individual harassed a lesbian woman out of a similar office. Just for a start. AIBU is damn right. It's all U.

OlennasWimple · 21/11/2017 23:59

If you look through Site Stuff, this comes up fairly regularly. MNHQ's stance last time it was asked is that there is no need, and they try to limit the number of sub boards (because otherwise it gets confusing and everything drifts back onto chat and AIBU anyway)

FWR is the usual home of threads about trans issues (which you can hide altogether if you wish)

Skarossinkplunger · 22/11/2017 00:02

I don’t read the trans threads and find I’m scrolling through more and more now. For me it feels less like AIBU and more like ‘Trans Rights Debate Club’.

OP posts:
MrsTerryPratchett · 22/11/2017 00:03

There's three Xmas ones in there currently. It's November. Are you policing those?

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/11/2017 00:04

Tell a lie, there's five and counting.

Skarossinkplunger · 22/11/2017 00:05

No, but then I wasn’t aware there was a Christmas Board!

OP posts:
Skarossinkplunger · 22/11/2017 00:06

And I’m not policing. Just asking for opinions.

I just had a quick check - my 1st 10 threads don't show trans at at all. So maybe it is your settings. Some trans threads I read, some I don't. Works for me

Curiositykilledthecat113 · 22/11/2017 00:10

For those saying there aren’t many:
Within the last hour: “AIBU to think that gender should not be the only essential part of their identity which people can self-define?”
Today (technically yesterday now): “LBC Trans women and non trans women” “to wonder if the world has gone a bit mad”
Two days ago but still front page: “at a 19 year old trans woman being elected a Labour women’s officer”

So there’s four examples all on the front page, if I looked further I’m sure I’d find more.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/11/2017 00:18

About one a day. And the only reason they are on the front page is because people are posting on them?

But in the words of Billy Mack, "Christmas is all around...".

MrsTerryPratchett Yes it’s surprising how much MNetters can exhaust themselves going over the same topics and repeating the same hate isn’t it

Originalfoogirl · 22/11/2017 00:21

Yes, let’s put all that “stuff” away into a corner so we don’t have to see it 🙄

Is there some reason you can’t just read and ignore it if you aren’t interested?

Viviennemary · 22/11/2017 00:22

No I can't see how that would work. It does cross all the boundaries. It's not something that can be put under a heading. What about those labour women only lists. Would they include Transwomen. It's an absolute minefield.
