AIBU?

Ballet Bun

Lynnebarnet22 · 19/11/2017 20:36

My nine yr old D/S is keen on ballet, which he’s done since he was five. He’s the only boy in the class and wears a regulation ISTD leotard and tights like the girls - which he loves. However, he now has long hair and I’ve recently been tying it in a ballet bun. He looks fab, but D/H doesn’t agree.

What's your AIBu?

CherryChasingDotMuncher · 19/11/2017 20:37

What does your son like?

Sirzy · 19/11/2017 20:38

I would have assumed that regardless of gender the rules around hair being up if long enough would be the same

Only1scoop · 19/11/2017 20:38

Aibu why?

LIZS · 19/11/2017 20:39

Why the duplicate thread?

Gizlotsmum · 19/11/2017 20:39

Didn’t you post this earlier on a different board?

steff13 · 19/11/2017 20:40

I am anti man bun, but if he's in ballet and has long hair he had to wear it up. What does your husband suggest?

NeverTwerkNaked · 19/11/2017 20:41

What do male ballet dancers with long hair do? What’s the rules for when he does an exam? I don’t really understand the AIBU, most ballet schools are quite prescriptive about hair being tied back etc

Bambamber · 19/11/2017 20:42

What does your DH suggest instead? It will have to be tied back tidily one way or another.

nikkylou · 19/11/2017 20:43

Ballet dress is quite strict, no? What style does the teacher dictate? If they state hair beyond x length goes in a bun or whatever then that's what happens, regardless of whether anyone thinks it's silly?

MrsFoxPlus4 · 19/11/2017 20:48

My son has long hair. He has long hair because he requested so & the deal was if he looked after it and wore it up for school that was fine. At 5 he wears a little man bun to school. I’d assume his hair should be tied back neatly regardless for ballet.

Plainlycrackers · 19/11/2017 20:57

What does the teacher say? Man buns are so common nowadays I can’t really see your DH’s problem. Out of curiosity, is there a difference between the leotard and tights that the girls and boys wear or are they all the same nowadays?

Plainlycrackers · 19/11/2017 20:58

PS Edinburgh Ballet expect boys to have long hair tied back.

Did you lose your thread from this morning?

Hi, Many thanks for your replies. I posted this under ‘Pre Teens’ earlier today, but still wanted a bit more feedback. So apologies for the duplicate. Sorry I don’t understand the questions about AIBU - I need them spelling out a bit more? LOL Lynne

Aibu- am I being unreasonable.

People usually say aibu to think he is cheeky or aibu to think she shouldn’t have said that.

You’ve just given a statement with no aibu or anything.

PurpleDaisies · 19/11/2017 21:17

Why does it matter what your dh thinks? Does he take your son to ballet? As long as the teacher is happy that’s the only thing that matters here.

Is this Billy Elliot?

Julie8008 · 19/11/2017 21:19

Sorry, I know it will be unpopular but he is a boy, it would make me very uncomfortable.

SussexBonfireViking · 19/11/2017 21:22

my son dances flamenco and has quite long hair, and we tie it up - i think he would rather cut it off than have a man bun!

why At 5 he wears a little man bun to school.

Lynnebarnet22 · 19/11/2017 21:26

Thanks for the explanation. My AIBU relates to D/H who hates ballet and calls our D/S a sissy. D/S loves ballet and he’s doing well at it, so why should D/H want him to give it up just because he has his hair in a ballet bun?

SussexBonfireViking · 19/11/2017 21:29

well if thats your AIBU, then no you're not

W1a · 19/11/2017 21:29

Surely this isn’t about his hair then is it?! It’s about your relationship and your husbands feelings about your sons sport.

That wasn’t in your op. Confused

PoorYorick · 19/11/2017 21:33

So the question you should be asking is should you be slapping your knuckle dragger of a husband into the year 2017. And yes, you should.

God, are there still mouth breathers who've got an issue with ballerinos? They shouldn't breed, they're bad for evolution.

Matthew Bourne's doing Cinderella next, I think.

Julie8008 · 19/11/2017 21:33

Is your DH worried your son might be homosexual or a girl?
FYI I am not being goady.
