"Armpit fat" isn't normal over bra?

Just been to Bravissimo for a long overdue bra fitting and buying session. They don't measure you, just bring out bras to try based on whatever you went in wearing ( in my case a long past its best 36B from Debenhams). She decided I was a 34dd.
Every bra brought to me gave me varying degrees of fat, including double fat with its own cleavage, above the sides, in front of my arm pits. The fitter just said "yeah, some people get that, you just have to choose the best".
So I left with nothing, except embarrassment, and annoyance that I'll have to find somewhere else to put myself through it again.
I'm a size 10-12, and whilst not skinny not so large that I should be accepting armpit boobs above my bra surely??
Any advice anybody? Please? Dreading going anywhere else now.

Bravissimo do tend to err on the snug side as this gives your boobs more support.
You do need to scoop flesh forward into the bra cup. Sorry that sounds grim!

Presumably you havent had this issue before though? So it isnt usual for you. For me, it is, and even if you get a million posts saying about 'scooping' etc, it isnt going to happen for me. Some bras are still better than others. But if this is new for you, then try a different bra type definitely

painting have you found what works for you? Is it a particular make or a particular style? Tried several styles, as I say some were better than others, but all looked horrible.

I like some of the debenhams own brand ones, but it depends on the cut/shape

I get this if I wear a supportive bra and it really annoys me!

Debenhams sell ones especially to smooth over armpit/back fat and they work really well (for me anyway).

They are in the DD+ range but worth a go if that’s the size bravissimo put you at.

I struggled with bravissimo, the back size they sold me was just too small, I never wore the bra as it gave me chest pains!

Freya Deco is good. I do think that it's unlikely that you are a 36 though at a size 10-12.

She tried some 36 but they were the same. Looks like Debenhams is the place to go, tried a few weeks ago but their fitter wasn't in ( small branch). Thanks painter and Henry.

I have put on some weight so is this just something you have to accept and minimise the best you can?

I get masses of armpit fat when I try to use the method that most of mn believes is how to get the right size and is I believe how some bra manufacturers work. Basically means the back strap is too small imo.
Debenhams does it the old fashioned way, as does M&S and it works for me. Debenhams on the whole makes me look neater so tend to choose them.

I’ve had depressing bra shopping trips like that. I’m the same dress size as you and approximately a 32E, 34DD, 34E depending where I shop. Take a deep breath and go bra shopping again, somewhere else.

Use the bra intervention method then try on in a shop move up a cup down a band size till you are comfortable

wild would you expect smaller or bigger size? I'm useless at this. The 34 felt better round the back but assume as a pp said, pushes the fat somewhere, causing this?

No it's not normal. It means the cup is too small. Everything should be contained within the cup.

I am currently despairing of finding a bra place that can measure and fit correctly. I used to go to a lovely £££ one and the fit was perfect. Now I can barely afford £, I haven't found a single bra I'm happy with.

A good fitting bra helps you feel slim. A bad fitting on makes for feel fat.

Sorry to lower the tone and it obviously depends on your shape but the only bras I like (and fit me) are M& S cotton ones. There's a good variety . I hate under wiring and the ones I buy aren't UW. I lost 3 stone and the smaller size 36 D is still good.

I had the same conversation in Bravissimo last time I went and I agree with you, it’s not something everyone gets. Their fitting service definitely isn’t as good as it used to be. They tried to keep me in a far too small back size as my ancient, overstretched bra “seemed a good fit” and she could barely do the new one up but insisted it was fine in spite of the armpit and back splurge.

I ended up buying some Pour Moi St Tropez bras online in a bigger back size (as per the bra intervention instructions) and they seem to help avoid this issue.

Size 12, 32GG here....armpit fat is a sign that the band is too tight or cups too small. I have never been measured but just take a variety of similar/sister sizes in and try on until I find one I'm happy with.

I've tried eyewateringly expensive brands but always return to my go-to Debenham's DD+ unpadded balcony bras. The cup is cut generously and holds everything in. They don't last a very long time, a few months at most, but I've never found a better, more comfortable bra. I can always pick 3 or 4 up in the sale too as it's obviously not a popular bra size where I live.

The cup was probably too small if you were spilling out of it (it sounds like boobage, not "armpit fat"?)

Ferrier, I find the same. The bra intervention method is uncomfortable and leaves me with back and underarm fat (my bmi is 22 so I’ve not got that much chub). The old fashioned measuring method works much better for me.

Those people who "fit" you are crap IMHO. I've never had a decent bra fitting. I tell what turned me round MUMSNET !!!! The old advice is rubbish. Listen to Mumsnetters!!!!!
