AIBU?

To make drunk husband sleep with his sick?

Dh has come home drunk from a works do. I could hear him banging about downstairs, then all goes quiet, then I hear him being sick. 5 mins later he appears in our room saying he's "messed up bad" and has been sick on our new £300 rug. I don't know what he's been drinking, but it literally smells like shit. I'm 10 weeks pregnant which doesn't help. So I have hoofed the rug into our snug room, and made him sleep in there on the sofa. I'm hoping this keeps the smell out of the rest of the house. I have two under 2 who will be up in under 3 hours, and I can't take them down to that smell. And I just can't stomach cleaning it (I was heaving the whole time I was moving said rug). Plus, a massive part of me thinks why the fuck should I have to.

Damn right.

TanteRose · 18/11/2017 03:30

Of course you shouldn't have to clean it up!
Do not do it.

That's his job when he gets up later

lightcola · 18/11/2017 03:33

Oh my, I would be fuming. Good luck for tomorrow. Get the kids to be super loud in the morning.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/11/2017 03:34

YADNBU!!

He made the mess, he can clean it up. OR buy a new rug if he can't.

Hidingtonothing · 18/11/2017 03:37

Nope, not unreasonable at all. His mess, his job to clean it up.

catiinbo0ts · 18/11/2017 03:43

Wake him up and get him to put the rug in the garden. The whole house will stink by the time you get up

IrritatedUser1960 · 18/11/2017 04:28

What kind of person does this?

iogo · 18/11/2017 04:37

I would put the rug outside yourself right now. Purely because he's likely to have fallen into a deep sleep so will be nigh on impossible to rouse. If you leave it in the room covered in vomit, that room may reek for AGES.

He's an idiot though and all cleaning duties and possible rug replacement fall to him.

ZoopDragon · 18/11/2017 08:01

I think you're being a bit mean, sorry. He wasn't sick on the rug on purpose. I'd be irritated too but would make sure he's ok and give him a bowl, towel etc, the same way I would if he was ill from food poisoning or a bug.

The rug is just furniture and replaceable. Chuck some bicarbonate of soda all over it, put it in the garden and let him clean it tomorrow, or tell him to get rid of it and buy a new one if it's beyond that.

I once got very drunk at a works do and was sick all over our bed when I got home. It ruined the mattress. DH was very kind about it, took care of me and didn't make a big deal the next day. I was very grateful. It's never happened since.

ICanNeverThinkOfAGoodUsrname · 18/11/2017 08:07

Don't clean it up, make him do it when he wakes up with a (very) sore head. Just keep everyone away from it and him in the meantime.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt through if it's not something he does regularly, lord, I know I've drunk more than I should before!

yowerohotesies · 18/11/2017 08:08

Yanbu. Being a lot more sensitive to gross smells during pregnancy is completely normal. You should not have to deal with this at all.

Ausparent · 18/11/2017 08:09

Don't you dare clean that rug!

If you do, somewhere and Angel will lose its wingsHalo

juneau · 18/11/2017 08:12

So he came home drunk, banged around downstairs, threw up all over the rug and then came and woke YOU up to clean it up??????

He sounds like a right catch Hmm

And no, YANBU. Make him clear it up or throw the rug away.

JonSnowsWife · 18/11/2017 08:12

Gosh makes me so glad I'm single.

I wouldn't have moved it neither given you're also pg at the minute Flowers but can see why you did.

Too right YNBU making him clean it up.

PacAMac · 18/11/2017 08:12

Yanbu!

dantdmistedious · 18/11/2017 08:14

Yanbu!!!

JonSnowsWife · 18/11/2017 08:15

Being a lot more sensitive to gross smells during pregnancy is completely normal.

I agree. Doesn't even have to be gross though too, I remember throwing up every time someone cooked baked beans near me when pg with DD. I went the same way with strawberries too.

But yes I can imagine how much more sick would make me feel too. Envy poor OP! Brew

Ellisandra · 18/11/2017 08:15

I don't understand why you've posted that a massive part of you thinks you shouldn't have to clean it.

Why is there even any tiny part of you that thinks that you should?

Dunkling · 18/11/2017 08:20

Agree with Zoopdragon. I don't disagree with you OP, your pregnant and the smell will be nigh on impossible to deal with, but other posters....... harsh much?

We all get drunk from time to time, not meaning to but we get carried away especially with special nights out, and sometimes we're sick because of it, never on purpose. When I read the op I think hell yeah, his job to clean up, but then think.... if this was reversed and it was me who overdid it and threw up, I know from experience my DH would have stuck me tucked up in bed with a bowl, and he wouldn't even wait till morning to scrub it up, then come morning he'd leave me to sleep it off with nothing more then ribbing when I emerged of my shenanigins.

Make him clean it in the morning, but none of this was on purpose!

AtSea1979 · 18/11/2017 08:21

Poor DH I bet he won't do that again in a hurry. Poor you, did he wake you because he was worried? I hate being sick and get a bit panicky when I am. If it was a one off I'd help him, if I could, if he has form then I'd block the 'snug' door and leave him to it.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 18/11/2017 08:24

How could you possibly for one minute think you should be cleaning it?

gunsandbanjos · 18/11/2017 08:31

Definitely don't clean it up!

He needs to do it himself. Can you take the kids out for the morning to get away from the stench?

Is this a regular occurrence? My husband had done this before and so have I. As I was feeling awful my husband looked after me cleaned everything up and let me spend the day in bed.
If it isn’t a regular occurrence and he has just overdone it on one night I would give him a break. Doesn’t mean you have to clear up after him but in the morning he will probably feel awful and embarrassed.

Cupoteap · 18/11/2017 08:36

Get up get the kids ready and go out for the day.

ShoesHaveSouls · 18/11/2017 08:37

Grin

OP YANBU, it's grim, you're pregnant, of course you shouldn't have to clean it up.

I suppose the poor bloke at least feels "he messed up" - unlike the guy who pissed all over his wife's clothes and then argued with her about clearing it up...
