Now, I might be enjoying this fall out because my DS went to the HelloWorld event and was badly ripped off (a YouTuber event which went terribly wrong) but finally Zoella is being challenged on her over priced tat merchandise. Particularly her advent calendar which is £50 FIFTY FUCKING POUNDS for the likes of confetti, 2 tiny candles, a thin copy book and a Pom Pom!

www.boots.com/zoella-12-days-of-christmas-advent-calendar-10235552

Social media is going mad, there are thousands of tweets, a viral video lampooning it is doing the rounds and it was discussed on 5Live last night.

Is anyone watching this fall out?

Do we think this will finally be the end of these terrible, vacuous idiots? Or am I too optimistic?

Ouch that is scathing. Makes Jo Malone seem good value ;)

£50 for that?? That is outrageous! Getting a little sick of these Vbloggers = The kids see the things they use are must haves. My DD has never been a 'grabby' type of child, alway grateful for anytime of gift. All of a sudden the amount of tat that they promote has become so desirable and one of life's goals. I need ..... they have it....... everyone is getting ......

Madness

It's got two cookie cutters in. Wtf?! 50 quid for twelve things. Notebooks, confetti, room spray, a candle, purse, keyring. That's awful.

I'm surprised that anyone would buy this full price. Surely, it's going to be one of Boot's weekly markdowns at some point!

I'm loving that it's restricted to 3 per customer.

A Celebrity endorsed product being low in quality and terrible value, well I never!

Sounds like it’s filled with the contents of really cheap crackers.
And what is all this 12 days of Christmas advent calendar mash up?

they were reduced to half price in superdrug the other week

Yes the 3 per customer made me laugh - I certainly wanted to buy 4 and spend £200.

I had a thread over the last couple of weeks about the HelloWorld event which opened my eyes to a lot of the practices of these so called "creators" and it has made me terribly angry about it all.
They actually make this stuff and then promote it every single day in their videos by saying "I worked so hard I didn't have lunch..." (a favourite of Sugg's boyfriend Alfie Deyes) "...so I could make this for you guys."

If your children are watching these people on a regular basis, I really suggest you watch it in the way your DC do to understand the pressure that is being put on young people to consume this tat. So watching 2-3 videos a day, reading the comments under the videos, watching their social media.
Like many parents I check what my kids are watching to see if it is suitable but I truly wasn't aware at what level they are hammering the selling down their throats.

That Metro article is hilarious! I must admit I blame the Poundshop for this. Whatever I buy, I'm always thinking, could I get this in the Poundshop? Fifty quid, oh dear lord.

Hi Brie, did you get any resolution to the hello world debacle? I hope so.
I bought her bag last year for one of my dc, again originally priced at £50 but it had heavily reduced, thank goodness. This years effort looks even worse so regardless of how much it's sought over I won't be purchasing.

The thing is you could buy the cookie cutters in Poundland for £1 or whatever but what would manufacturers of a product like that calendar pay for them in bulk?
I get there are other things involved in making these kinds of things and of course profits etc. but this is pure exploitation.

I don't think a lot of parents understand the level of selling that is coming into their homes every day with these people. It isn't just some celebrity endorsement or shitty perfume this is product after product taking centre stage in your homes everyday.

I hate this whole youtuber shite. I know one who is a vegan fitness youtuber, has a website where she creates a fitness plan and meal plan based on her own likes etc (one generic one for everyone) and has no qualifications or training. Over 1000 members at over £5 a month ...
She posts videos of her own cooking and training showing incorrect form and so on.

It's ridiculous, someone will get hurt and she will take no liability.

Finally people are waking up to this.
Most of these types of channels are all about making money for themselves with no integrity. Sadly the kids are falling for it.

Don't hold your breath Brie. Is it true they have left their management?
My youngest doesn't watch Zoella but is interested in a few others who mainly open toys and that's the same shill all day long.

Whaaaaaatttt Shock

That's appaulingly bad. I'm always so relieved that none of these charlatans vloggers were around when I was that age.

I've heard such awful things about the HelloWorld event, does anyone know how they responded in the end? We're any apologies/refunds given etc??

Who TF is Zoella?! The only YouTuber I'm familiar with is DanTDM and he grates enough as it is.

I must be getting old... £50 for some overpriced tat that will be looked at for 5 seconds before it's dumped in the bin. Hmm

And you can't really tell a 10 year old that a bag of glitter and one of Zoellas special candles isn't worth £50! Well you can but I doubt they'd believe you because fucking Zoellas says it is.
There lies the problem.
