AIBU?

To think this restaurant is slightly out of order?

Afternoon all.

Each week I eat the same meal at the same restaurant, same time, same day (same table if the winds blowing in the right direction Wink). This has been a routine for just over a year Smile. I've become friendly with the staff - first name terms with a couple of the regulars.

Each week I leave one element of the meal. The last 3 ish times that I've visited I've been served this meal without this element. Hmm.

No one has ever mentioned it to me, or offered a reduction in cost or a replacement item.

AIBU to think that it isn't the restaurant's place to make this decision on my behalf?

Why don't you just say when you order? "I don't like mushrooms, can I have extra bacon instead"? for example.

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/11/2017 13:05

They've noticed you don't like it so they're not putting it on there for you to leave!

I guess they could have asked if there's anything you'd like instead, but that probably depends what it is.

Venusflytwat · 13/11/2017 13:05

I love this.

You know what? I think they’re just being pragmatic, and acknowledging you as someone known to them.

What’s the meal? :)

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 13:06

Also!

Apologies, forgot to add.

Because of the missing element, the meal has a reduced portion size of one of the other ingredients (which I do eat). Iyswim?

But you haven’t eaten the item in over a year so each time it has been wasted and put in the bin.

You’d really rather it gets put on your plate so it can be thrown away?

Unless you are ordering steak and chips and leaving the steak, I wouldn’t expect a reduction

Duckwich · 13/11/2017 13:07

If you leave it anyway, why do you care? The restaurant staff are just being on the ball recognising you don't eat whatever it is.

Justbookedasummmerholiday · 13/11/2017 13:07

Maybe there thought since you don't want to eat the item you would prefer not to look at it either?!
What is the item??

Albertschair · 13/11/2017 13:07

I think it is a nice thing. They know the way you like your meal.

Have you have really truly left that element on the side of the plate 52 times, but have never asked about a replacement?

Leave it be

blueskyinmarch · 13/11/2017 13:07

They probably think they are doing you a favour given you eat this meal every week and always leave that component. I actually don't know why you don't ask for it without that component of you never eat it. I don't think they are out of order at all - they are trying to cater to your specific needs.

UnicornRainbowColours · 13/11/2017 13:07

Erm ok..i guess I get your point. I mean I take my Nanny charge to a music class once a week in a cafe with a small play area. So I treat myself to some breakfast as I meet a friend with her nanny charge and I always leave the garnish salad but they still put it on despite knowing me and my charge and I guess I was hoping eventually they would realise and leave it off...

Why don’t you ask to swop the thing you don’t like for something else?

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/11/2017 13:08

I don't understand about the reduced portion of the other thing. What is this component? I'm sure you wouldn't out yourself with specifics here!

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 13:08

I can see the pragmatism of it. But surely they could have offered a small reduction?

They're charging me for this element AND charging someone else for it, profiting twice. The HORROR! Grin

I think you need to tell us what the meal is? And what ingredient is reduced in size?

blueskyinmarch · 13/11/2017 13:08

Next time ask for a little more of component A seeing as you are not having component B? What is it anyway?

khajiit13 · 13/11/2017 13:09

I think it's great. I hate waste. If you have an issue with the portion size, talk to them

Cheby · 13/11/2017 13:09

Can you just give the details? It's a fairly specific situation anyway, saying what good it is isn't going to make it any more outing. ANd it will make more sense to the rest of us.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 13:10

Okay.

It's bean on toast. Standard meal plus, at a supplementary cost, two poached eggs.

So I like it on the two toast as I get more beans.

Slimming world dontchano?

So you’re offended that a restaurant where you are a regular customer has taken note of your dislikes and not served you this instead of throwing it away every week .....
Maybe do as I do and say “ could I have salad instead of the chips please “

Cheby · 13/11/2017 13:10

SeekEveryEveryKnownHidingPlace · 13/11/2017 13:11

It can;t be that central or expensive an ingredient if its presence on the plate doesn't stop you ordering that dish, surely?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 13/11/2017 13:11

£4.10 for the standard meal plus £1.80 for the two extra eggs.

Oof

Ah ok. Why don't you ask if you can have a few more beans in lieu of the second piece of toast?

To be fair, that slice of bread costs them about 5p, so they wouldn't reduce the cost of your meal by much for having one less piece of toast.

Duckwich · 13/11/2017 13:12

Their till might have pre programed meals on it, so a pita to set one up especially for you.
I find it really odd that you would rather it be put on your plate just to be thrown away.

Nicknacky · 13/11/2017 13:12

What part of it aren't you getting now?
