That part made me cry. I can’t believe what an utter mess we are making of our beautiful planet and what we are destroying for our children.

I’ve recently gone vegan for environmental reasons, I recycle everything (to the point I bring home other people’s recyclable rubbish), I’m trying to cut back on as much plastic as I possibly can, I try to walk rather than drive, I sign petitions, I donate to Greenpeace, but I just feel so incredibly hopeless. I wish I could do more. And I wish others who could make a real difference would do more. Sad

Keep doing what you're doing.

Attenborough believes the most important thing is the education of women (this reduces population growth).

Thanks Ringle. It just feels so small and pointless sometimes when faced with such destruction.

That’s really interesting, I’ve never heard that about Attenborough. I completely agree though.

Icing I do that too. I hope it does, I see more and more people picking up rubbish, it's not just me anymore round here.

The other thing I do is moan at the supermarket about plastic packaging. Please would you help me moan- even just going to the service desk and asking about how to buy veg without plastic. If enough people did it...

I think reefs and icebergs could do with a good declutter.

I’ll add that to my list!

That’s what I find so frustrating. As consumers some of us do our utmost to leave as little environmental footprint as we can but until the manufacturers and producers take a stand, we’re limited in what we can achieve.

Confused

Are you aware soya plantations are the culprit for massive deforestation on a global scale?

Absolutely. And are you aware that 90% of all cultivated soya goes to feed livestock?

So being vegan doesnt neccessarily help the planet.

Many think soya and tofu are environmentally friendly.

Taking an ethical environmental stance is always a good thing. It doesn't create an obligation to identify the "one true solution".
Whatever you do, it sends a good signal to decision makers.

Being vegan has less of an environmental impact than eating meat and dairy. Each to their own, and I’m not trying to convert anyone, but it’s true.

I'm a keen scuba diver, been diving for 20 years and just introduced my 8 year old to diving in Mauritius over October half term. The diving community are acutely aware of the risks to the coral reefs and DS's instructor took DS to see where they are planting new coral beds, some of the coral in Mauritius was as beautiful as I saw in the Maldives 20 years ago. There is hope.

Because better educated women tend to have fewer children.

Coral reefs are a bit meh, I can only assume that you are not used to them. Tbf I am more concerned about there being enough food and fuel to go around.

Statistics PeiPei. Women's education is correlated with less babies. not so much men's. Science, innit.
