My DH bought a Bakewell tart the other day. Ok. Fine so far.
Disgusting git bought custard to go on top.
He's wrong and foul isn't he?
If it helps swing it my way he says the opinion of MN doesn't count.
He may not live to see Monday! Grin

I love custard, but on a bakewell tart??? No way!

No, custard is fine, so is cream or ice cream or any combination of all three. What's not to like?

What sort of a monster could do this?

We used to have slices of hot bakewell tart made in huge metal trays for school dinners. That was served with custard, and it was lovely.

No.

No fucking icing either. Flakes almonds only.

When I was at school back in the day, we used to have Bakewell tart with this white almond flavoured custard and it was absolutely gorgeous.

I've always said I'm going to try making it but never have. This thread may be the boot up the arse I need to give it a go.

Proper Bakewell tart is good with custard. Those silly little things with icing on top do not work so well.

yanbu
bakewell tarts are perfect and sweet enough as they are.
custard is for sour fruity things.

It's a silly one with icing!
Custard is for steamed sponge.

Proper bakewell pudding, yes custard. Shop bought icing ones... No custard!

Hot Bakewell tart with custard is yum... but icing on top is no good for this.

Icing and custard [ shock]

Horrific.

Of course Bakewell tart has custard. Unless they’re Mr Kipling or something equally unlike a Bakewell tart.

Oh dear, did the poor man go to boarding school? My husband is constantly slathering everything with random condiments (custard being the pudding equivalent of a condiment). I've tried explain to him how rude it is to put ketchup or chutney or whatever it is all over your food but he just won't listen.

That’s all kind of wrong.

Custard on BW tart. No.
Hot custard on cold BW. No.
Hot custard on hot BW tart. No.

Just no.

Bakewell Tart is horrific. Custard would make it bearable. Just.

Bakewell tart with icing = no custard

Bakewell tart without icing = custard

What you really want is a Bakewell Pudding. Then custard.

Mr Kipling type Bakewell Tart - maybe Cream?
