My DH bought a Bakewell tart the other day. Ok. Fine so far.
Disgusting git bought custard to go on top.
He's wrong and foul isn't he?
If it helps swing it my way he says the opinion of MN doesn't count.
He may not live to see Monday! grin

Argh LTB. Custard = envy <---- definitely not envy.

Ginosaji Sun 12-Nov-17 17:42:18

I love custard, but on a bakewell tart??? No way!

FadedRed Sun 12-Nov-17 17:42:30

No, custard is fine, so is cream or ice cream or any combination of all three. What's not to like?

rogueantimatter Sun 12-Nov-17 17:43:28

What sort of a monster could do this?

We used to have slices of hot bakewell tart made in huge metal trays for school dinners. That was served with custard, and it was lovely.

No fucking icing either. Flakes almonds only.

Fontella Sun 12-Nov-17 17:44:16

When I was at school back in the day, we used to have Bakewell tart with this white almond flavoured custard and it was absolutely gorgeous.

I've always said I'm going to try making it but never have. This thread may be the boot up the arse I need to give it a go.

Proper Bakewell tart is good with custard. Those silly little things with icing on top do not work so well.

PurplePillowCase Sun 12-Nov-17 17:46:47

bakewell tarts are perfect and sweet enough as they are.
custard is for sour fruity things.

Wolfiefan Sun 12-Nov-17 17:47:00

It's a silly one with icing!
Custard is for steamed sponge.

sadiemm2 Sun 12-Nov-17 17:47:50

Proper bakewell pudding, yes custard. Shop bought icing ones... No custard!

Plainlycrackers Sun 12-Nov-17 17:48:24

Hot Bakewell tart with custard is yum... but icing on top is no good for this.

rogueantimatter Sun 12-Nov-17 17:48:29

Icing and custard [ shock]

Crumbs1 Sun 12-Nov-17 17:50:04

Of course Bakewell tart has custard. Unless they’re Mr Kipling or something equally unlike a Bakewell tart.

Ttbb Sun 12-Nov-17 17:50:17

Oh dear, did the poor man go to boarding school? My husband is constantly slathering everything with random condiments (custard being the pudding equivalent of a condiment). I've tried explain to him how rude it is to put ketchup or chutney or whatever it is all over your food but he just won't listen.

HashtagTired Sun 12-Nov-17 17:53:47

That’s all kind of wrong.

Custard on BW tart. No.
Hot custard on cold BW. No.
Hot custard on hot BW tart. No.

Just no.

lidoshuffle Sun 12-Nov-17 17:55:01

I had a thing professing to be a Bakewell tart in a posh cafe and it had COCONUT in it!! Sacrilege.

DancesWithOtters Sun 12-Nov-17 17:58:03

Ceesadoo Sun 12-Nov-17 17:59:13

I’ve never had custard on a Bakewell tart. I love custard though and would defo try it.

juddyrockingcloggs Sun 12-Nov-17 17:59:21

Bakewell Tart is horrific. Custard would make it bearable. Just.

IhaveapenIhavepineapple Sun 12-Nov-17 18:00:44

Glumglowworm Sun 12-Nov-17 18:03:08
