To ask for tangible benefits of Brexit?

RiskIt4Biscuit · 10/11/2017 21:01

Some politicians are saying that we're all brexiteers now.

But I can't actually think of any tangible benefits of Brexit, and I think as a brexiteer, I should be able to list at least 3.

So how is Brexit going to make our lives better?

It depends how much disposable capital (including 'social capital') and insider knowledge you've got to take advantage of the 'creative destruction' that comes from huge structural upheaval.

A tiny minority are bound to do very well indeed.

The government of the day will no longer be able to claim their hands are tied by Brussels when defending unpopular laws.

Sovereignty. We’ll have sovereignty. Eventually. Whoops of joy.

I have one.

The government is raising money from non Brits now seeking British citizenship. It costs approx 1.5k total for them to get through the exam assuming they don’t pay for tuition and pass first time.

That’s going to totally offset the cons off Brexit obvs.

I’m not a breiteer if you hadn’t already guessed. I’m a pissed off brit. My hands have been tied.

Yep, demonstrations, a crushing electoral defeat against the weakest opposition in years and apparently we all support May's stance! The only benefit in Brexit is for the opportunists looking to shaft everyone else.

This is just a goady thread. Leavers have been stating the benefits for months/years, but remainers just shout them down. So whats the point repeating them.

Just be honest, someone wants another thread saying they hate Brexit and the sky will fall in if we dare to try and escape from our EU overlords.

I don’t think you can think of it terms of tengible benefits. What will be the tangible benefits of reversing the decision now, and staying in? We will lose all our opt outs and our rebates, it would be a disaster.

The EU is not in good shape itself, and Brexit is by no means it’s only problem. Greece is still the festering sore, yet you never read in the U.K. press how bad things are there. They are still racking up billions of Euros of debt, and even the IMF has refused to back the ECBs bailout policy any longer. If Greece does collapse finally, Italy will probably follow, and if that happens, the Euro could collapse completely.

The Germans are getting fed up of having to pay for everyone else, and Merkel’s position at home is now considerably weaker after the last election.

Euro scepticism is on the rise across all Europe amongst the people, yet Brussels continues to push for further political and economic integration.

Brexit will be difficult, but much of the harm at the moment is being caused by uncertainty. We need to just get on with it. I am a big fan of Yanis Varoufakis, and if you haven’t read either of his books, then I urge you to do so, you won’t worry half so much about Brexit then.

We will not have the EU trying to erode our laws, you know the horror that is being shown about people having money offshore well in 99%of cases there is no tax avoidance due to long established laws, laws the EU have attacked. We can pick people from around the world to fill our immigration capacity rather than being forced to favour Europeans. We will be able to be charge of our own economy for good or bad. We are protected from the march towards a federal states of Europe. We can retain our support common law and it’s institutions and structures which I believe would eventually have come under attack under freedom of establishment. Flexibility in dealing with the rest of the world

£300 million a week saved, the freedom to trade with anyone in the world and our share of the EU's assets will pay off a huge chunk of the national debt.

But we didn’t have to have any EU laws we didn’t want. We are one of very few countries that could choose to “opt out”. We didn’t very often coz most of the laws made sense?

The idiots who voted for it will eventually get what they deserve?

That's the only benefit that I can think of. Unfortunately, the rest of us will have to suffer with them, but at least we won't have to live with the knowledge that we've only got ourselves to blame.

If only there was some sort of clue as to the subject matter of a thread and one could decide if one felt the need to read the topic. Maybe MNHQ could look into that....

No they haven't, they've just gone on about immigration and sovereignty.

They are not tangible benefits.

I voted to remain and I can think of a few (not many). We can get rid of VAT on menstrual protection.

We can introduce risk-based money laundering rules instead of the ludicrous tick box rules we have now.

And one very serious one - it's well documented how many immigrants Germany took in in 2015. I'm not all sure how many of them are genuine refugees. But I hope they are happy in Germany, because if Brexit does not happen, after they've been in Germany for 5 years they get rights to permanent residency which then gives them the right to live anywhere in the EU - including the UK if we are still in.

However, none of that outweighs the massive disadvantages.

I still think there will be an almighty fudge and we will stay in but if we don't you can come back to this thread on 30th March 2019 and tell me I was wrong.

First of all, when exactly are we going to see that much-promised £350 million per week that we'll apparently be able to give to the NHS.... 🤔

And another thing - won't we have to pay £53 billion to the EU when we leave? Or a similar amount.... keeps on changing every day, it seems. If that's not a turn-off for Brexiteers, I really don't know what is... Shock That'll put us in debt, for sure!!
