School disco

DS had his first disco today. Are they always so utterly awful? No seating for parents so they decided to all stand around on the "dance floor". Parents so busy recording/taking photos they are oblivious to all the children around them (huge safeguarding issue with regards to sharing images but that's another story). Adults barging past people and generally having no considerations for anyone around them.
He blood loved it, I'm gutted I'm going to have to go through that again at some point.

Parents usually only stay for the first one, at least at the schools I’ve been involved with.

Why were there parents there? Apart from the required number of parent helpers who stayed, we just dropped them off at school discos,

No parents other than 4-7 helpers stay to ours. Suggest to your Parent Council that they go adult free next time.

I’ve never been at our DDs’ school discos. They seem to have enjoyed them, the worst that ever happened was that DD1 appeared to have lost a hearing aid, thankfully we found it later inside her Elsa costume wig.

We had to stay at ours for reception. Photos were not allowed.

No idea about seating etc as DH went not me.

Wonder why we had to stay. The hall was far too small for all of the parents/siblings/buggies. We definitely had to though.

Having to stay sounds pretty grim. Thankfully ours are drop and run.
There's usually one a term but the reception children don't go until the summer term (when they are more able to handle the fun/chaos!)

At our primary, we make parents stay for infants because we don't want to be responsible for a whole bunch of hyped up 5 and 6 year olds.
However, seating is available round the edge and anyone wanting a coffee can get one and drink it whilst looking through the door.

At our school, No parents at ks1. I think that’s wrong. Drop off. FFS. Who is organising? Or allowing such nonsense? Why everyone kid school/PTA allow this?

Parents have to stay at my dc's school's discos in foundation stage and ks 1. I'm a supply teacher and have worked in many schools and this is the first time I've known parents to have to stay. It's awful, especially when you have 2 dc there at the same time because they want to be in different places (they do an 'event' rather than a disco with far too loud music/dj in the hall and then activities in the ks1 classrooms). It's also a pita when you have a younger child who is not yet in school, not allowed to attend the event and you can't find childcare. My dc have missed out on several occasions because of this.

Parents not needed at ours either (even Reception) because there is no space for them (drop off only from Year 1 you can stay at reception if you want)

Helpers are there plus the teachers (we arrange the date with them) so its fine

It's in the afternoon during school time though with PTA helping.

Ugh I had to take Reception DS to one a few weeks ago, it was hellish. Parents stayed, room too full/hot/loud, my worst nightmare. DH is taking him next year.

Oh and it was 6.30-7.30 so DS was shattered before we even got there! Shudder...

Do other's not include alcohol for adults? Ours has a bar, it's a bit more bearable with a plastic glass of wine in your hand.

We don't allow parents in the hall or dining area but do have a classroom where they can wait if they don't want to leave (perhaps they travel far or by bus etc) We have 2 discos 1 hour each with a 15 minute changeover inbetween.
