Contact your MP about the Gender Recongnition Act

If you are concerned with the proposed changes to the law, which allow boys/men into every area, space and club currently allocated as girl/women only read on.

Otherwise close the thread.

"What can we do ?"

Write to your MP

Follow up with a visit to the same MP

Tell them that woman's rights are being elimitated in order to virtual signal to the trans population. That these new rules will make things difficult for the original transsexuals and woman. Whilst literally opening the door to female only spaces to sexual offenders.

Take copies of leaflets that they need to read.

Including the Sage leaflet mentioned below, full of all the basic facts.

The Transgendertrend web address with its alternative school based reports on supporting gender non confirming children without throwing girls under the bus.

Tell your MP that many of the original transsexuals are concerned too. Miranda Yardley being a highly recognized example in this category, who is supportive of women's rights and a Mumsnetter.

Search the Mumsnet Feminist section for other links. The damage to girls's safety in schools, woman's rape centres, woman's prisions, women's sports, women's grants, etc.

It is a never ending list of problems but they all start with the potential amendments to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA) that are being debated by government over the next few months.

Tell your MP to OPPOSE the changes to the Gender Recognition Act

I plan to but expect no response or a shitty condescending virtue signalling response that of course they support it andanyone who doesn't is an evil bigot.

A visit in person is more effective I hear.
I am ringing up to make an appointment today with my own MP.

I am worried about the reaction I will get too. But I am a middle aged woman with three daughters and for their sake I have to try.

I am also going to ring our local Top shop? To tell them I have banned my daughter from shopping there and if they change their rules about men in changing rooms, to let us know.

Totally with you & appreciate your concerns here OP thank you.

It would be really helpful if someone could write a template for people to use. Or set up a petition on change.org maybe?

Preferably one which leaves out made up terms such as virtue signalling. (Sorry it really bugs me!)

Just wondering.... I emailed my MP about this a few weeks ago, no reply after about ten days so emailed again. Wondering how long to leave it before following up more and how best to do that? What would you advise?

Just emailed my MP's office to see how to get an appointment.

Tweebee Chase it up. If you feel you could, maybe make an appointment to gi in person. A letter gets a slow and standard reply but if we sit in front of them they have too listen.

Oh god more of this over exaggerated shite. Men are not trying to get access to women’s changing rooms. Get over yourselves not everyone is trying to perve on you

Smilied
I will link to some of the templates I have found online, after the school run.

I used the phrase virtual signalling as these proposed changes hurt transsexual people too. They used our bathrooms for years with no trouble and now every man will have the right to walk in, it will make women nervous and the current transsexuals will be more uncomfortable too.

Men are demanding access to women’s changing rooms though, why do you say they are not?

And I’m glad you can vouch for the intentions of every single person on the planet, that must be a useful ability.

Yum yum yum this is good food.

Men are not demanding access- they’ve never actually been banned. Always been husbands and sons in every changing room I’ve visited.

All the government is doing is updating out of date legislation to support trans needs. It’s literally the only thing this government is doing vaguely right

I've emailed my MP and she responded with the virtue signalling bullshit. She won't do anything that doesn't involve a photo op or is slightly controversial as she has her eye on the labour leadership.

glen Try and make an in person appointment. Most Mps send out a standard letter. Some of them change their minds after talking yo a real person. It is worth a try ?

@glenthebattleostrich maybe she believes the legislation does need updating. Maybe she’s more emotionally advanced that you?

@babieseverywhere your mom probably laughs after every meeting with you about your outdated attitude. The horror men in topshop changing rooms. Over 50% of topshop changing rooms have been communal for about four years now...awkward

I got an answer from the Member saying that he would consider the proposals on their text and not on press speculation: which is a fair answer.

booboobooboo84 You are losing it. A man does not become a woman - and entitled to use such necessarily female spaces as women's loos and changing rooms - by identifying as a woman. And vice versa for different but overlapping reasons; when I'm changing for a swim I don't want women around, and a woman is changing for a swim she doesn't want me around, and we are both right.

And that's before you consider sport . . .

In your opinion @andrewofgg

In my opinion anyone can choose to identify as whatever sex they feels fits them best. That’s my opinion. And I’m entitled to it and I will voice it especially when people are trying to silence it by creating exclusive threads just to spread hatred

Andrewofgg · 10/11/2017 08:13

Identify if you like, but what sort of body you have is a matter of objective fact and it determines which changing room you can use and which you are not welcome in.
