got a new car seat for 5 1/2 month old DD. husband just put it into the car and that's where it'll stay (big one does her till she's four years old). put it front facing instead of rear facing, despite instructions saying can't be rear facing till she's 10kg.

he thought she was 10kg.

she's *just over 5kg.
*
she was prem aswell, so still quite small for her age.

how can he think she's 10kg?!

or should I cut him some slack? (I'm not narking at him at all, just a bit baffled)!

10kg doesn't sound very much.
Most people aren't used to thinking of body weight in kilos.
Most people don't think about children's weights very often.
I'd have to weigh my 8yo now to guess anywhere close in stone or kilos.

I'm not surprised he got it wrong!

I wouldn't worry. I've got very little comprehension of what weight actually feels like. You could things in my hands and I could tell you which was heavier, but I'd be fucked if you asked me to give you a number.

They need to be rear facing until 15 months now anyway I think

Mixing up pounds and kg?

I have no clue how much 10kg is in terms of actual weight.
No idea what my own weight is in kg come to that.

Do you take your baby to be regularly weighed? If so, would you really know how much she weighed if you didn't take her?

Ellisandre she's weighed regularly (at least twice a month) and it's all constantly noted down on her little red book, which he looks at 😂

to be fair his head is a little up his arse at times!

Is he confusing his pounds and kgs? I did that a lot when she was little 😄

Even if he looks at the red book he won't be taking in her actual weight, just noticing that the line goes the right way. Most parents won't remember the weight without looking at the book!

to make it clear, weight is a big thing to us and we are always up to date with it because she was so tiny when she was born. it's always being checked and is written down clearly in pounds and ounces and also kg!

mistakes happen anyway! I was just a little Hmm to myself when he said it 😂

she was always weighed in kg in neonatal too, so we had to convert it to pounds and ounces ourselves, so have dealt with kg from the beginning!

after all the hassle putting car seat in and taking it back out, he's not sure if it'll be suitable because she'll be sitting too upright 😂 I guess we'll see!

I'd cut him some slack. I didn't know my DC's weight in Kilos despite a) being the one who took them to be weighed and b) being a health professional.

FWIW I know the dog food weighs 15kg though. It's my "size of Wales" analogy for weight. Grin

think I will cut him some slack, I am just ridiculously obsessed with her weight (unnecessarily so to be honest)!

We were the same with NNICU, I still confused the two though! And I totally get the obsession with weight. Our girl is 8 now and is weighed every 6 months or so when she sees her neurology consultant. This last time I jumped for joy that she had put on 2kg in 6 months which puts her on the centile chart, where she should be. If I had some advice it would be, keep an eye on it but don’t stress. I stressed too much in the first few years and it wasn’t a good situation!

Well, I know that our DS was LESS than 1kg at birth (he was prem too), but I've no idea what his weight is now. He's 15 and taller than his mum, so I'd guess 60kg or so. Shock

taller than his mum, so I'd guess 60kg or so.

That might not be saying much, most 12 year olds are taller than me 😂😂
