I've completely gone blank on what to cook recently. I need inspiration for family meals that are easy and quick to make but nothing too fancy as youngest dd can be a bit fussy.

What form does her fussiness take? And what kind of things do you like yourself?

We are having sausages, cheesy mash, veg (and stuffing for me) and gravy. I have a fussy child too and sausages and mash are one of the few things there are no complaints over. Personally I'm sick of them myself.

Spag bol was the other one last night that's always a winner. I like being able to blend the veg through too so she doesn't realise.

Also try the Yummly app. I find this helps me get new inspiration when I've lost it. It links you to lots of online recipes and you can keep a record of different meals ie dinners and it can give you a shopping list and you prepare something that way or just put in what food items you have and it can come up with ideas for you - like say you have onions, potatos, beef or something. It then gives you ideas on what you can do.
Oh and I've resorted to real basic meals again like brown rice (called Buddha bow or glory bow) with a range of chopped up veges and salads, cheese grater, with mayo or aioli. Family can pick and choose what to add to their meal. Or tacos same thing - get basic taco ingredients and let the family choose what to put in their taco. And go for basic stews. Also a jacket potato meal and they add their own toppings - sometimes it's just cheese. I'm ok with that.
We also have pancake or waffle night once a week. It's so easy and the family like it. Keep it simple. You don't have to be grand to feed everyone.

When my son was still at home ( and old enough) we had a come dine with me competition and each member organised a tea and pudding! We loved it and it took the drudge out of cooking! Smile

Kids and dh wanted fish pie... so I went to shops and it has cost me £10.39 Shock Hmm normally my fish freezer would be stocked but it needed defrosting...

I can’t wait till Friday where I can refill at the quays!

For the rest of the week we are having chicken chasseur, spag bol, Chicken Sunday dinner, and haggis burgers with whiskey sauce

Traybakes are great if you're feeling lazy. Chicken thighs, potatoes, load of veg (onions, peppers, mushrooms etc) seasoning and sprinkle with paprika and cumin. Cook for about 45 minutes at 180c, perfect Smile

Get some minced lamb, make koftas with them and serve with hot pitta breads, some yoghurt dip and some roasted sweet potato wedges. A green salad to accompany.

what form does the fussiness take?

I do a chicken stew that goes down well (as long as I pick the veg out for DS). It's leeks, mushrooms, carrots and boneless chicken thighs with a tin of cream of chicken soup chucked in and simmered. Served over rice, potatos or with pasta. It's my go-to can't be bothered, fed up with the complaining meal. I console myself with the thought that the veg has cooked in the stew so DS is getting some goodness there.

Meals we used to enjoy when I was a kid - spanish omelette and salad, tuna pasta, macaroni and cauliflower cheese, curries of all sorts, mexican wraps, courgette bake (ratatouille under slices of french bread with cheese on baked in the oven), chicken thighs and veg with herbs and spices wrapped in foil and baked, "fun tea" which was burgers where you put the salad and bits in yourself how you wanted.

Dd is fussy. She loves

  • meatballs with pasta and tomato sauce
  • spag Bol
  • fajita wraps with chicken and carrot/cucumber

If you have sausages, you could do a sausage casserole. Sear the sausages first. Or some other hot pot. This sort of thing. www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/easy-sausage-casserole/

Tonight though I am ashamed to say that I am making 3 different meals.

It's takeaway Tuesday for DS as he has late clubs- he has chosen pizza. DH is getting mushroom jalfrezi thanks to Mr Aldi's pre-made sauces and I am having steak and veg as I can't bear Jalfrezi and DH really is craving it.

Today it works for 3 different meals- about once or twice a month I will do that if we all just really dislike what the other person wants.

Oh! Firefries has reminded me with her pancake night.... I used to do 'breakfast for dinner' a few times- so eggs, baked beans, bacon and toast followed by fruit and yoghurt. Easy, and always a hit with my family.
