Rejected by ASOS due to my age

Hi,

I know this sounds very paranoid but I have registered with ASOS and it won't recognised my correct email address and password. I didn't think too much of it and tried again with no luck. I wanted to order some clothes but I couldn't add any to my 'bag'. When I finally got onto the live chat, the first thing I was asked was my date of birth (aged 45). I was told they couldn't help due to data protection and I should email them from my email address. I asked for their address and was sent a link which took me back to the questions page.

I tried to get on live chat again but received an email asking for my order number. I tried twice to reply but my emails won't 'send'.

I tried to register again but it states there is already a customer with the address.

I have never had such problems before and not incompetent re online shopping (I don't have a poor credit history)

Am I being totally stupid thinking it could be my age?

I didn't understand very well what happened, but maybe you have already registered with that email address? Did you check your inbox?

Try doing a password reset and see if that helps.

It sounds like when you gave them your date of birth it didn't match the information they have on their system, and that's why they can't help due to data protection.

I'm 10 years older and have had no problems with ASOS over the past couple of years I've been registered with them.

I'm 47 and me and all of my friends of a similar age have ASOS accounts so it's nothing to do with age.

asos website is just a bit hit and miss sometimes i'm afraid, especially the emails
i ended up registering again with a spare throwaway email when something like this happened to me, i suspect there's a database issue
unfortunately stuff like this just happens sometimes with tech sometimes, nothing to do with you

So you are attempting to register again using the same email address? This why they are saying there is already a customer with this address ... that person is you!

Either follow the process where you have forgotton your user name/password.

Or register again using a different email address.

Probably a password issue. Have you missed a capital letter out or got the wrong one?

I had this last week - a company I was dealing with had my wrong DOB on their system and we ended up having a (friendly) argument on the phone about my birthday!

It's not your age. They want your money, they don't care how old you are.

They want to confirm that you have the email address you say you do. The link they sent to the questions page is probably because there is a question there about contacting them that has their email address on it.

Go to the login page and do the forgotten password thing - it should send you an email link to reset your password. You could also sign up again with an alternative email address.

As others have set, just reset your password and have another go.

They ask for your DOB as a security check, they legally aren't allowed to talk to you unless you have proved you are the account holder. Which requires - on social media/live chat - 3 bits of information. Usually email, date of birth and an order number.

I know this because I was one of the advisors asking it hundreds of times a day and well used to being accused of all sorts for it.

Oh and they sent you the link rather than a direct email as there is no direct email, it's all done through the FAQ page

ASOS don't care if someone is as old as Methuselah. They'll still happily sell you their party dresses that cover 11% of available flesh.
