Questionable pub roast dinner

I may be being unreasonable here so please do say?

I went to a pub for a roast this afternoon. It wasn't a good meal. It just didn't taste of anything other than gravy. (It was also missing the Yorkshire pudding and parsnip as promised on the menu)

My AIBU is, the menu said 'seasonal green vegetables'. But all I was given was huge helping of lettuce and a few half carrots.

Am I being greedy to think lettuce isn't particularly seasonal, and expected another vegetable at least?

I'm happy to be told I'm being unreasonable. I was just a bit confused at the huge pile of lettuce

Sorry it's a boring AIBU!

Lettuce?! Sure it wasn’t cabbage?

ClashCityRocker Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:01

Lettuce? On a roast dinner?!

snackarella Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:07

Maybe kale? Or spring greens?

WhooooAmI24601 Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:24

Lettuce? On a Sunday roast? What is happening to the world?

AuntLydia Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:26

Lettuce?!! Lettuce with a roast?!

FannyWisdom Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:26

Sure it wasn't cabbage?

Anyway yanbu no yorkies would be my line.

Grilledaubergines Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:27

Cooked lettuce? No way!

Creambun2 Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:43

Depends on the place - high end gastro place then YANBU, if harvester or similar what do you expect?

allegretto Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:48

Was the lettuce cooked?

LovingLola Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:51

Am gagging at the thought of a mound of lettuce with gravy....
Did you not say something when that was put in front of you???

HarrietKettleWasHere Sun 05-Nov-17 15:48:54

Lettuce?!!!

Did you say anything? Eating out is expensive. I won't put up with something substandard, and a roast is easy to get right.

HarrietKettleWasHere Sun 05-Nov-17 15:49:32

Although...are you quite sure it wasn't chopped up over cooked cabbage?

allegretto Sun 05-Nov-17 15:49:50

I cook lettuce with peas and butter sometimes - very nice but I wouldn't want raw lettuce with a roast.

ivenoideawhatimdoing Sun 05-Nov-17 15:50:21

I’m with everyone else... lettuce?! That’s beyond a sacrilegious - that’s stuff of heathens and I wouldn’t be paying for a roast dinner with bloody lettuce on it!

HidingBehindTheWallpaper Sun 05-Nov-17 15:50:54

Lettuce? On a roast?

allegretto Sun 05-Nov-17 15:52:08

Only acceptable like this www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1659/braised-lettuce-with-peas

Mummaofboys Sun 05-Nov-17 15:52:53

Dear god lettuce on a Sunday roast?

IHaveBrilloHair Sun 05-Nov-17 15:54:26

Lettuce on a roast?
Was there coleslaw too?
That's weird

PumpkinSquash Sun 05-Nov-17 15:55:51

I was about to say YADNBU just because of the fact that there was no Yorkshire pudding with your Sunday roast.
LETTUCE though?! confused No. just no. Are you sure you're not getting mixed up with cabbage?! Lettuce with a roast is all manner of wrong. Cabbage on the other hand, is not.

pisacake Sun 05-Nov-17 15:59:05

how much did you pay?

BarbaraofSevillle Sun 05-Nov-17 16:01:44

Did you go late in the day and they were running out of things?

At this time of year, I would expect sprouts and some other vegetables. And Yorkshire Puddings are non negotiable even if you don't have beef.

YANBU to be disappointed. Given that you can get a Toby Carvery for £6 or £9 on Sundays and it really is quite decent, you'd expect anywhere serving a roast to at least meet that standard.

Allyg1185 Sun 05-Nov-17 16:07:53

Surely it was cabbage?

PelvicFloorClenchReminder Sun 05-Nov-17 16:14:25

Lettuce with a roast? Something is desperately wrong here. Is there an apocalypse? We'll all dooooooomed!
