Since when was this a thing? Suddenly an increasing number of people are putting up trees and decorations because it’s now early November? What?!! It is nowhere near Christmas. What is the point?

Some people like Christmas. I love the lights when the days are short and dark. We haven't put anything up yet, but I don't doubt I'll have something lit up before the end of the month.

AIBU to not understand why some people get so wound up by something unharmful people do in their own homes?

It’s a little early but hurts none, unless you consider Christmas sacred. Do you ?

We decorate the 25th of November. Personally I wouldn’t see the point of not decorating until the week before Christmas as why would you put in all that effort for such a short amount of time but actually I am unbothered by what people want to do with their time and how they want to decorate their house.

Saddo mcsadface to be wishing life away like that - and makes what could be a fun few days of lights a total overblown bore.

I don't get it either. I am sick of looking at the tree by the time Christmas day comes around and I love to get fresh flowers and do a massive clean on new years day.

Well I've already got my Easter bunny out, it's never too early.

It starts mid-October in some areas here.

I wonder why they bother taking them down.

I bought Halloween stuff in the sale at Sainsburys yesterday and put it up, even though we didn't decorate this year. Grin

Can't be doing with the Christmas tree til the schools break up at least. It comes down between Christmas and New Year. That's plenty.

I was in Waterstones on Wednesday and their tree was up. Ridiculous. People will be bored of Christmas by the time it comes at this rate.

Where do you even buy a Christmas tree from at this time of year? Shock

Way too early.

I don't get it either. I love Christmas. I've started with my preparations, but the tree doesn't go up until December. Last year we put it up on the 1st and DS was like a coiled spring for the whole of Advent because everywhere he went Christmas was getting shoved down his throat - trees in every shop, nursery doing Elf of the Shelf, tree at home, and he (at 3) just couldn't understand how long he still had to wait for Christmas Day.

My parents put theirs up a week or so beforehand, and growing up I used to wish we could put it up earlier. After last years experience with DS I'm seeing their logic and I'll be copying them this year!

Agreed. It's ridiculous!

My sister puts hers up about mid November. She loves Christmas so much I think she might burst with excitement if she had to wait any longer.

This is like MN Bingo, weve just got rid of the "Halloween is begging and Americanised" threads and along comes this. Every year. I will never stop wondering why some people are so bothered how early other people decorate their homes. Clearly some people think just because they would be bored with the tree and decorations others should be to. Nope.

Comments like Saddo mcsadface to be wishing life away like that - and makes what could be a fun few days of lights a total overblown bore are just so judgemental.
I couldnt care less what other people do or dont do at Christmas with decorations. Not sure how putting your decorations up in November is wishing your life away mind you, the longer they are up the better for us and thankfully we all still enjoy it, its a shame some people find it "an overblown bore" eh!

I don't really care what others do. As long as I don't have to look at a Christmas tree for months on end in my own house it's fine.

Confusing for young children to have the tree up this early though. Give them the impression Santa is coming real soon. Only he isn't.

Ours don’t break up till the 22nd and we go away on the 23rd. Maybe we won’t bother this year. Grin

Ours go up on 1st December.

Personally I don't understand putting them up so early at all but each to their own.

What I really can't understand is those that put them up even earlier in Oct...if it's before Halloween and Bonfire Night it's just wrong!

I'll admit it. I judge. Heavily. Can't stand it. And inevitably hoiks massive and unreasonable judgy pants the trees and decorations that go up that early are tacky AF.

There. I said it.

If you put the tree up this early do you have to dust the baubles? It's going to be up for 2 months after all.might need a quick vacuum too.

A house near me has had their tree up - fully decorated including lights - since mid Septembers.

Chipsahoy · 03/11/2017 10:14

Meh. Nothing to do with anyone else really is it? Put it up when you want. They put it up when they want. We all mind our own business. Result.

I put mine up early November. I can then start wrapping and putting stuff under there ready for thanksgiving.

MsHopey mine too. I put it up early this year after a hell of a fortnight. It was sort of a "looking into the near future" sort of symbol.
