Sorry. I should know better than to get wound up by the daily mail, or Sarah Vine.

Lines like: What started as a WhatsApp group of parliamentary employees swapping notes on their bosses has turned into a mob of aggrieved ‘victims’ claiming a million sexual micro-aggressions against a number of unnamed individuals who, it seems, are not even allowed to know where they are supposed to have overstepped the mark.

Poor menz. Not knowing what constitutes sexual harassment.

Or perhaps that depends on your point of view. Because there is a strong cultural and generational element to this, too. Most of the accused are over 40; most of the accusers are in their 20s. In other words, it’s the revenge of the millennials, many of whom will have had their senses of humour surgically removed at university.

Riiight. So anyone who is harassed, doesn’t have a sense of humour if they don’t laugh it off?

Like that stupid ‘Metoo’ hashtag that started trending after the Harvey Weinstein scandal broke, these are not real expressions of emancipation: they are empty, attention-seeking gestures

I tweeted about my rape. I can assure you it wasn’t attention seeking.

AIBU to be sad that some women, like sarah, feel like this?

God, we have along way to go.

Stupid cow.

picklemepopcorn Thu 02-Nov-17 18:38:40

Very disappointing. She'll find herself on the wrong side of history...
I’m over 40 and I didn’t like being manhandled. I’m glad the prevalence of this behaviour is finally being recognised. It’s been sort of 'don’t do that, it’s not nice, but if you are rich or famous or powerful then the rules don’t apply so go ahead.

Rebeccaslicker Thu 02-Nov-17 18:39:09

Why did I click on the comments? Whyyyy? A moron about 3 posts down is whining about the creeping attempt to get rid of the poor menz - "the creators of everything outside the natural world". And people are upvoting him.

Urrrrrgh.

ZenNudist Thu 02-Nov-17 18:39:27

It goes without saying she is reprehensible. Self serving cow. I hope it doesnt come out tbat her dh is a letch. (Vom)

gluteustothemaximus Thu 02-Nov-17 18:41:06

I made the mistake of clicking on the comments. Boy, that was depressing.

Theresamayscough Thu 02-Nov-17 18:45:30

Yes it’s like Hopkins though isn’t it. It’s not a considered evaluation of the situation it’s simply her trying to get attention by shot stirriing.

She would say anything for copy.

Watching the news now and Michael Fabricant is saying his name is on the list and he has no idea if it’s ‘sexual or expenses related’ and he’s whinging. Unbelievably. And does the twat wear a wig?

Henrysmycat Thu 02-Nov-17 18:45:44

I hate that (expletive) idiot with a passion. She’s a misogynist and spineless. She has herself so much and we should hate ourselves too. Pathetic little troll she is, catering to the lowest demographic of brainless racist cretins.

gluteustothemaximus Thu 02-Nov-17 18:46:02

Also, Micheal fallon’s comment of ‘what was acceptable 15 years ago, isn’t acceptable now’.

No, it was NEVER acceptable to women. What you got away with 15 years ago is not the same as ‘acceptable’ behaviour.

Albertschair Thu 02-Nov-17 18:49:04

15 years ago was 2002. Not 1952 (when it was legal to treat women as second class citizens)

15 years ago was not that long ago.

LadyinCement Thu 02-Nov-17 18:56:41

I certainly didn't agree with all her points, but I do have an uncomfortable feeling about trial by internet and jumping on the bandwagon. It seems whatever is Cause Du Jour gets people all excited and then it's on to the next thing. In this case it really trivialises a serious issue.

The comments section of the DM... just don't go there. Weirder people than on MN!

RosaRosaRose Thu 02-Nov-17 18:57:58

I went through the 70 80 90's experiencing inappropriate behaviour in the workplace. Outside of that workplace, it seemed we were 'fair game'. It was something you just lived with. Made you feel shit. As a teenager, walking past a group of men or a building site was hell. "Nice arse!" "There's a nice little pair of wobblers!" (my tits) Living with it daily, there were coping mechanisms. Like understanding that this was shit that just happened I wish I had all their names so that I could shame them. So glad that this is being halted.

Theresamayscough Thu 02-Nov-17 18:59:32

Quite just because they got away with quite disgraceful behaviour doesn’t mean it was ok and they bloody well knew it wasn’t ok!!!!

And yes 2002??? I stated work In 1982 and that behaviour would have been totally and utterly unacceptable in my work
Place.

HelenaDove Thu 02-Nov-17 19:00:39

Samantha Brick is coming out with the same shit in this weeks Woman. (print edition)

They have two writers debating this. The other one Tanith Carey is the one saying it like it is.

mnpeasantry Thu 02-Nov-17 19:01:05

Great - would love to count Vine and Brick out.

scortja Thu 02-Nov-17 19:02:35

There was another one on Breakfast this morning - Isabel Oakeshott..

Spudlet Thu 02-Nov-17 19:03:50

Pound to a penny her DH has 'overstepped the mark' at some point and she knows it...

Rheged Thu 02-Nov-17 19:05:57

Is she the one married to Michael Gove?

In a world run by women all these men would know not to make a nuisance of themselves because it would consequences after the first time.

So Sarah doesn't need to worry. Thank heavens for that, eh?

gluteustothemaximus Thu 02-Nov-17 19:11:05

Someone touching their knee 20 years ago. FFS. Women should get a grip.

I really cannot believe someone has resigned over a knee touch.

There will be more.

queenofthemountains Thu 02-Nov-17 19:12:31

Spudlet - my first thought.

Great minds

Littlecaf Thu 02-Nov-17 19:13:10

Honestly.

But she’s saying it to provoke a reaction. It’s so ridiculous that it requires ignoring. Much like Katie Whatseherface

DJBaggySmalls Thu 02-Nov-17 19:13:16

I'll get a grip yazadoodaydee, on the testicles of every nasty creepy groper.

Sandsunsea Thu 02-Nov-17 19:16:47

She's an idiot, as are all who read the daily mail and agree with it. (Looking at you parents!) we should ignore her vitriolic and stupid verbal vomit and instead focus on those that are finding the courage to talk about their ordeals.
If you ignore a bully they will go away.
