I am not an ogre I promise haha, but it actually wound me up.

You know the little rides in the shopping centres some have 3 spaces ( peppa pig one )
Now normally if daughter gets on with someone else I offer to pay for a second ride for them both and this as happened the other way round to.

Today daughter gets in one of the carts I say out loud let me check if I have s pound and was going through my pockets

A voice behind say
" going on then get on "

This girl about the same age popped on the ride, whilst I was still trying to dig a pound out and the mum just stood there 🙈

So anyway wouldn't begrudge a child s go so carried on.

Finishes, I had another pound so asked DD if she wanted another go.
Other mum then says oh you can have another go to.

Waits for me to enter pound !

End of the ride, girl jumps off and they walk off with no sign of a thankyou.

Height of rudeness and bad manners.
Not so much the allowing her child to get on the ride youd paid for. I mean kids something that moves. They want to pounce on it. It's only child like, I guess
Its the fact that you never got a thank you or even a grunt.

That is very rude. Not completely surprised though. Bad example to set their child.

I think YANBU. I would have asked very politely if it would be OK for my child to ride too I probably wouldn't have asked as I'm too British, and just waited for it to be free and offered the next ride if I had the pound. Thanking would certainly have featured. Your description suggests a sense of entitlement that would make my eye twitch.

But when I do, very occasionally allow my 2DDs a ride that takes 3 (the bus type) I will usually look around to see if there's a single rider to join in. Might as well get your money's worth.

We would have waited until the ride was free.

I didn’t realise sharing was a thing for these type of rides. I wait for it to finish or (more often) say that it’s busy they’ll have to go another time

Yanbu, other mother was plain rude and should have paid her share the second time

I like the sharing. But certainly you take turns paying.

However I NEVER pay for two rides. I can barely bring myself to pay for one.

I would have been 😳 That's very cheeky, when DS1 was little if an unknown child had tried to join him he would have got off the ride - very shy child, DS2 on the other hand would not have been fazed by it and I would happily have invited any other child waiting, but for the parent to encourage a child to hop on without invite that's CF behaviour

You did the right thing.

She was rude, but shaming someone over £2 is just not worth your brainspace. Assume she couldn’t afford it and you did a nice thing for her little girl.

I am not an ogre I promise haha, but it actually wound me up. You're a mug op. Kidding. Grin Exhibit A: British Stiff Upper Lip. The woman might be a chancer and she got you pegged. I'm surprised you didn't ask the girl to get off or get your own daughter off the ride after the other mum stated to her daughter matter of fact she's getting another FREE go. PTSD? Smile

I knew someone who used to do this. She'd wait until the ride was about to start and then plonk her child on too. She could well afford to pay for her children to ride, but refused to do so. It's extremely rude! She's not someone I have anything to do with nowadays.

If someone had tried that with me, and I hadn't already put the money in, I'd remove my child from the ride, and very sweetly tell the scamartist pisstaker that we'd be happy to wait until they'd finished their turn.

Errr if I'm paying for the ride my kid is having the ride on their own. If someone plonked their kid on the ride I'd ask them to get off and wait their turn.

My toddler is at an age where sharing is very stressful for them (I do encourage sharing with friends but not every time with a random entitled kids as it's too exhausting) and so having someone else's kid who maybe older so more dominant would just ruin it for my kid. Not worth it.

If someone had said that to me about their kid getting on I'd probably either just leave it and not bother with the ride to avoid confrontation or say to parent my kid was here first, can they wait their turn. Wouldn't entertain sharing the ride.

My toddler would've thrown a shit fit if anyone had tried to share with her. I imagine the interloper would've removed themselves fairly quickly when confronted by a toddler screaming NO! NO! MINE! repeatedly Grin

That's hilarious. Some people are woefully clueless.

I wouldn't even pop my kid on someone else's ride, I'd find that way too presumptuous. Let alone freeloading of a random twice. What is wrong with people. Grin

Wow some people have some cheek. But perhaps others have said they couldn’t afford it so you did a nice thing.

I think the not asking to join/not offering to pay is cf territory, however I don't understand the mentality of it's my ride I've unpaid for so I'm happy for it to go round with 2 seats empty at all. I would always ask if other children wanted to join if they were nearby.
I wouldn't pay for 2 rides though!!

A women once did that when my DS was on the ride. I said to DS that he was to be careful of touching the other little boy due to his very infectious hand fungi.
Never seen a mother remove a child so quickly, she actually ran off down the supermarket aisle to get away Grin one of he few moments when I remembered a decent comeback in response to what was happening

If she had asked I would have been happy for the little boy to come on the ride but she just plonked him down

Shhh don't tell my three year old you put money in and it moves. She thinks it's just to sit still in

If no one ever paid and the kids never saw they'd never work it out!

Dippy, absolutely brilliant. I will store that one away.

I'm stunned. We aren't at that stage yet and I would be shocked if someone did this. Maybe after the first ride i would have said "oh lovely, and now you both get to have a second ride, isn't it lovely to share?" and then turn and smile at the CF until they stuck in a pound.

I used to tell my little boy the Thomas the Tank ride in Tesco was broken but if he sat on it and shuffled a bit it would be like it was chugging Blush

Report
Ttbb · 02/11/2017 07:10

She should have asked before directing her daughter three to get on. If she couldn't pay for the second ride then she shouldn't have let her daughter ride in the first place or st the very least she should have told her daughter to get off and left.

My kids think the escalator in Morrisons is a ride. They think it’s a treat if I let them go on it. When they’re very good they can go up AND down!
