Double cream poured over them, instead of Whipped cream? I have some people coming over to eat. I have tried and liked Meringue Puffs with double cream poured over them but wondered if it is too odd to serve them like this to other people?

I would probably cry if you did that to me sad

I wouldn't mind if there was fruit as well but just meringues and pouring cream would be a bit strange

Sounds like I need to shelve the idea and stick to whipped cream instead!

Why don't you serve the pouring cream separately in a little jug and the whipped cream in a bowl so that they could choose?

OhBeggerItsMorning Wed 01-Nov-17 18:47:42

Do you have any whipping cream? If not, you can whip double cream, it just doesn't keep the whipped consistency as long as whipping cream. (I checked recently in Sainsburys as they didn't have any whipping cream and I wanted some)

If it's a case of not being bothered not wanting to do the whipping I would recommend you choose a different desert.

Or put the cream in the bin where it belongs and serve with ice cream? wink

NotCornflakes Wed 01-Nov-17 18:52:05

Yes, let people choose! I don't like cream at all, and would prefer plain meringues if there was no ice cream on offer.

Have it on the table in a jug. I like pouring cream with fruit and meringue

Fekko Wed 01-Nov-17 18:53:32

Sloppy cream and meringues? Are you crazy? You don't deserve meringues. Hand them over right now.

malika54 Wed 01-Nov-17 18:57:31

I am French and very offended at tge thought of cream. Strawberries, yes. Ice cream, yes. Anything else is heresy. Seriously. grin

pret Wed 01-Nov-17 18:58:41

Eewwwe don’t do that. No one would eat it.

LoniceraJaponica Wed 01-Nov-17 19:02:55

"it just doesn't keep the whipped consistency as long as whipping cream"

Of course it does. Double cream has a higher butterfat content than whipping cream and stays equally as whipped as whipping cream.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat Wed 01-Nov-17 19:07:13

I'd eat it grin

Rebeccaslicker Wed 01-Nov-17 19:08:35

Queen delia says.... you can whip double cream, but carefully: www.deliaonline.com/ingredient/cream

I'd still rather bin it though. Only sour cream is good eatin' on that entire page!

tealandteal Wed 01-Nov-17 19:13:05

What is whipping cream? I always whip double cream

LoniceraJaponica Wed 01-Nov-17 19:24:19

Whipping cream has 36% fat content. Double cream has 48% fat content.

Explanations here

Whip the cream

It’s not rocket science, surely?

minisoksmakehardwork Wed 01-Nov-17 19:43:48

I have yoghurt with my meringues. Clearly I am a heathen!

Personally I’d prefer both creams on the side as I’d eat neither.

tealandteal Wed 01-Nov-17 19:59:06

You learn something new every day! Unless you are whipping by hand, it takes minutes to whip cream so why don't you ask them before you serve?

Fekko Wed 01-Nov-17 20:01:26

Is a meringue puff like an ordinary meringue?

PortToTheLeft Wed 01-Nov-17 20:06:20

I'd choose the pouring cream over whipping cream. In fact that's how I'd serve them full stop - not giving the smallest thought that it would be disliked.

It's a wonder I have any friends really (though no friends = more meringue for me).

Outnotdown Wed 01-Nov-17 20:06:26

I'd eat them. Love cream. Love meringue. Yum, yumgrin

Electric whisk, 2 minutes, makes better tasting whipped cream than whipping cream does. Single cream won't whip, but double is great.

Where is Crumbs1? She'll know.
