DS1 (12 ) comes to me this morning and says his head itches. See a live not, I check other kids and DS3 has a few eggs. I go to chemist and they give me and 8 hour lotion.

I can't put it on tonight as we have a little Halloween party going on till 9pm.

I don't really want to send them in tomorrow with them again so WIBU to keep them off tomorrow to treat it?

What kind of halloween party? Not one where you could pass it to other people i hope.

I would treat them now and also maybe keep them off tomorrow to comb through again.

You're taking them to a Halloween party, while they have head lice?

Actually, I'm confused.

Did you knowingly send them to school today with head lice?

No. We're having a Halloween party. Our little family, whilst we open the door to trick or treaters.

No other kids coming in the house.

It will be very late by the time they take their Halloween gear off and I have four kids and have to do the comb through first then applications. It's gonna take at least an hour.

Then in the morning we walk to school and have to leave early so I'm going to have to wake them up at stupid o'clock after a very late night :/

If it was a normal night of course I'd crack on when they got home but they've been so excited about dressing up.

So you want to keep them off school to treat it but you also want to take them to a Halloween party BEFORE you treat it?

Hedrin Treat and Go?

Put it in before the party - takes no time at all. Or immediately before bed.

Absolutely no reason to take time off school.

I had to. He said this on the way to school. I had a very important gynea appointment straight after school drop off at hospital that I couldn't take 4 children to! I've been waiting almost 2 months for it.

Very unreasonable.

Do it tonight or set the alarm to go off early. It only takes a few minutes.

[shakes head a mutters about idiotic parents]

Skip/delay the Halloween stuff and treat the nits tonight

Why don't you just put it on overnight, no need to keep them off school.
Or you could buy something that only needs to stay in 10 mins and do it after school

I had to take the lotion as it's what was offered to me on the minor ailments scheme at the chemist.

It's not a Halloween party, the kids have just been calling it that.

It's just us dressing up at home and answering the door if anyone knocks on. No other kids will be stepping through the door.

Do it straight after school before the party?

Buy one that can be done quicker then? Hmm

An 8 hour treatment??

Takes 15 mins to treat with Hedrin Once then about another 15 mins to wash it out Hmm

You can easily buy some full marks that only has to be on for a few minutes. It will still take a while to do 4 kids but could be done tonight and do the youngest first so bed time not too late.

They have me the lotion that is 8 hours. I don't have the money to buy any. I am a single mum on disability benefits and that is what they gave me for free on the ailments scheme.

I'm struggling financially this week :( embarrassing to say but I can't just buy the 15 min treatment. I have the 8 hour one.

Ahh I see.

Because you said he 'came to you' this morning, and you checked all 4 kid's heads, I didn't realise you were already on the journey to school.

I'm going to go the other way here. I would keep them home, and treat them. It takes hours to comb properly, and his will give you the time to do so.
The head lotions dont work, Ive used on DC plenty of times, and the lice are still alive after treatment, as are the eggs. If you google the lice program, it has a planner on when to comb, in order to properly treat them.
Do the 'Day Zero' tomorrow, and then the following days after school from then on.
Maybe if more people treated them properly it wouldn't be such a problem.

I’ve taken dd off school to treat nits before. Disgusting horrible things.
You should comb out the big ones though so they can’t lay any more eggs. Hedrin only needs to be left in for 15mins, what is this 8 hour shit?

The eight hour one doesn't require combing, and can be left on safely for longer than 8 hours (that's the minimum time for effectivness, not maximum recommended).

So you can treat when they get in from school, or in gaps between callers.

No reason whatsoever to have time off school.

You can't kept your kids off school for that! Put it on before bed then get them up a bit early in the morning to wash it out. Worst case they go to school with wet hair, get them to wear a hat for the walk so they don't get cold.

Sorry I just read your last post. Sorry.

You could still comb out the big ones though.
