To wonder if DD had MMR vaccine accidentally?

DD had 13 month vaccines 11 days ago. These vaccines are supposed to be 4 injections at the one appointment but due to previous developmental and health concerns I've had surrounding my DD, I opted to have 2 immunisations at that appointment and to come back in 4 weeks for the remaining 2.

This was all fine with the nurse. I requested the PCV and MEN B vaccine and then the other vaccines in 4 weeks (MMR and another 1).

When I entered the room, all 4 immunisations were out of their box and ready to be administered and when I requested only 2 the nurse then grabbed 2 vaccines and left two on the counter.

Im wondering however if it may be possible that due to these circumstances there may have been a mix up and DD may have gotten the MMR vaccine instead of one of the others.

Reason for this is yesterday (day 10 post vaccines) she came out in a rash which is now covering her body. No temperature or other symptoms. Dr advised that it is a viral rash but it seems similar and almost a coincidence that on day 10 she got this rash which can be a symptom following the MMR vaccine.

Just wondering if anyone knows if the actual vaccines (when out of the box) have details of the vaccine inside the syringe or whether it would be down to the nurses memory which vaccine was what.

And also if she has had the mmr accidentally is there anyway to know and will it cause any harm to get another dose in 2 weeks time?

Yes 4 injections in 1 sitting, its the 12/13 month vaccines.

They should have written in the baby book (ours is yellow but red seems like the default on MN) what vaccines they gave and information such as batch number etc and what leg they were injected in to. Did you see her write this information in, copying from the vials? If so just check the book and it will tell you what she was given.

I don't know but i would be contacting the surgery tomorrow and asking for clarification. Things like this make me annoyed. You go to the trouble of arranging to have the jabs in two sittings and no-one thinks to inform the nurse who is administering the jabs so in the end it comes down to her memory on a potentially stressful day in a stressful job.

I'm sure the syringes have details of what vaccine is in them! Also, the precise details of what was administered (the serial and batch no, not just name of the vaccine) should have been entered in your red boom if you are in the UK. I really think it is very likely to be a coincidence.

I'm not sure but would it take ten days to appear? Pp is correct they should mark what was administered. My dd had a similar rash with a virus.

They have stated what was administered (simply what I asked for) but no batch numbers. Just left leg pvc right leg men b.

then that is likely what was given. syringes have the names of the vaccines on them.

redken apparently day 10 is the common day post mmr vaccine to get the mild form of measles rash.

The doctor asked if she'd had the mmr vaccine recently and I said no, but then I did wonder when we left.

Your all probably right, just coincidence, just wondered if anyone knew if the vaccines details were on each individual syringe (if so a mix up is really unlikely)

Was it at the GP surgery? If so then the batch numbers and details should be on the electronic record - they don't always put the batch numbers in the red book.

I understand your concern but it may well be a coincidence - little ones can get rashes in response to various things. Maybe speak to the surgery and ask them if they can confirm which she has had?

It was at a local hospital but they did put details into the computer so I will give them a call and ask to confirm. Thanks.

Batch number will definitely be recorded by the surgery and will show which is which. The vaccines themselves usually have a number of peel off stickers which is stuck in the vaccine record, or otherwise the number is noted. To most of us, the needles look more or less the same. To someone handling them regularly, they'd be as clearly distinct from each other as when we would look at a handful of coins, for example. While of course it is possible a mistake was made (mistakes are always possible with any human endeavour), I'd be very surprised if the nurse just mindlessly grabbed any old two. Mishandling and misadministrring medication could be grounds for disciplinary proceedings up to losing her licence.

Call the surgery if you need reassurance. Hope your daughter is well soon.

I agree with PP, the surgery should have kept the stickie from the vaccine bottle and stuck it on the baby's vaccine sheet which is kept on file at the GP surgery. Each vaccine has a different number which is kept if needed to retrace for each patient.
The GP could have checked while you were there
anyway you can call tomorrow and ask the receptionist to check

The vaccine details are written on each individual syringe as well as on the box so she wouldn't have needed to memorise it.

Have you checked the vaccine record? Can't remember with DD, but when the cat gets her jabs the vaccines have a little label that peels off the vial and get stuck on the record card. So that pretty much eliminates chances of mistakes - they don't peel the sticker off til the injection has been administered.

Curious (don't know how to bold) I never knew that, every day is a school day on here. Always learning somethin lol Is your dd OK apart from rash? Hope you get some more clear answers when you speak to someone.
