Fax machine - yes or no

I don't use a fax machine, ever. There isn't one at work either.

My Dr has just asked me to fax over my request for a repeat prescription Seemed surprised I didn't have easy access to fax.

So, do you ever use a fax machine - yay or nay?

Nope - I used to have a fax number provided by a service who would send the fax by email to me but I even gave that up as no-one used it. Scan & email is what goes now.

Yes but I work in the legal industry, which, despite being at pains to describe itself as 'innovative', is still a bit iffy on service of documents via email

Interestingly I read that faxes are still popular in Japan, something to do with the importance of handwritten signatures there.

Work just got rid of fax machines last year. No one. Absolutely NO ONE uses fax machines any more.

Yes at work but we've finally caught up with the 21st century and can send and receive things by email now that we used to fax. We still insist on old fashioned post for some things though.

Every day, I work in Pharmacy and I send about 50 faxes a day, which is probably why your GP wants a fax.

lonicera and everyone else who recommended emailing - I did ask but they said the choices were either to fax, or to go down there and fill in the request slip.

I use one every day at work (the NHS). I couldn't believe my eyes when I was shown around the office on my first day.

We still use one at work, but I think we in the minority. My dad still refers to facsimiles and asks me if I can photostat things for him (I usually ask if he wants it done onto foolscap, just to play along)

Yup, NHS worker here and I fax stuff every week if not quite every day. Mostly to GPs. They like things in writing.

Not sure if anyone would like some useless information but a fax is preferable to email in instances where there could be problems if the 'image' was doctored. A fax message cannot be 'intercepted' as it relies on 2 and only 2 'machines' 'talking' to each other in real time and the message cannot be stored. Emails can be 'stored' and then altered.
You can use a computer as a fax machine but it must be understood that the possibility of interception is there although the risk may be deemed acceptable.
