Anyone who owns black cats please remember to keep them in over Halloween. A lot of people on Halloween night and Mischief Night (the night before) think its fun to harm or even kill black cats for superstitious reasons.

So just a friendly reminder to keep all of your kitties safe!

My cat had a firework shoved down it's throat and lit a few Halloween ago. But I've never heard of the superstition reason. I figured it was a bunch of evil bastard who thought it would be funny to see an animal suffer

I've heard of this happening plenty of times in the UK too, I know its mainly in America but not unheard of here.

If you've seen the amount of times people put poison in food down in parks to kill dogs, its not a far reach for you to believe this too

I'm not saying they're doing it because they believe it will do anything for them. Its just a 'thing' people do. And growing up I heard kids in my school laughing about trying to catch a black cat.

Mischief Night is a thing here, in school groups of kids would go around and egg people's houses etc. (I never did because I was too scared of my mum!)

Yep we did mischief night when I was a teen. Mostly throwing eggs at other teens who were doing it. Not at random strangers. We were well behaved mischiefers. But we never planned to kill or harm an animal

Mischief night is a thing here in West Yorkshire, but I’ve never heard of it being specifically targeted at cats. Petty vandalism mostly.

Mischief night is a thing here as well - liverpool. Someone threw a stone at our front window and smashed it a couple of yrs ago. I think its more up north, night before halloween.
