Hi all, we're planning on watching scary films on Halloween idea why, I'm such a wimp. Anyhoo, any recommendations from you wise souls? A good slasher film perhaps? Tia

I enjoyed It Follows. That was pretty terrifying.

Yes I've seen it follows......terrified me for about a week. I kept thinking people who were walking in the same direction behind me were going to kill me.

The Cunjuring 1 and 2.
Pet Semetary
The Others. Not gory, but excellent twist to the story

Another vote for It follows! I'm going to watch it again on Halloween 🎃
For slasher you can't go wrong with the original Scream, one of my all time favourites even though it's a bit silly!

When a stranger calls, both origninal and remake.

The strangers

Black christmas (again both)

Original prom night

the shining

Wow this is a great list of horror films. I might watch a different horror film every night next week as I can't choose between them all! Thanks all!

So far on the list I have -
- The shining
- When a stranger calls
- Insidious
- Christine
- Halloween (obviously!)
Any other recommendations?

Halloweeney ones;
Trick r Treat
All Hallow's Eve
Halloween 3 (it's a standalone)
Halloween Tales
The Witch

Something that really creeped me out- It Follows is good. 30 Days of Night is a reasonable vampire film.

Lighter relief;
Monster House
Hocus Pocus
Scared Shrekless

‘Halloween’ is definitely the original and the best! ‘Scream’ is fun and pretty scary in my (scaredy cat) opinion.

‘Let the right one in’ is very creepy, though less obviously Halloween-y than some. It stayed with me a long time.

Nightmare before christmas - i dont do scary grin

The Babadook

The Woman in White scares the heck out of me - the rocking chair bit in particular! In a gentler way, The Lady in White.

Lights Out (2016)
The Descent
The Strangers
The Forest

A Texas Chainsaw Massacre, both the original and the remake, any of the Friday 13th films, The Exorcist, Drag me to hell, Psycho, Hellraiser, jeepers creepers, The Fly.

GypsieQueen Fri 27-Oct-17 22:21:55

Also Creep is pretty scary!

I haven't seen It Follows, will have to look out for that one, I think it might be on Netflix? Or Now TV. I've been looking for a good scary film to watch with DH - he's an absolute wus when it comes to scary movies, jumps at least a 100 times & that's not in the scary parts!! Lights Out is a good one.

karmacoma1 Fri 27-Oct-17 22:26:37

When the lights went out
I second the conjuring 2. - watching it tomorrow actually - really creepy.
If you can fine it, the original 'The Haunting' is brilliant. Black and white, made in the 40's I think.

Rec, a Spanish film, is really really good, but don't bother with the American remake (Quarantine). However the woman in Quarantine was also in The Exorcism of Emily Rose which is also a very good film.

For laughs, if you have now tv, Attack of the Lederhosen Zombies. Low budget, absolutely big names in it but silly zombie fun.

YouBetterWORK Fri 27-Oct-17 22:29:19

That should read NO big names!!

Lipstickonteeth Fri 27-Oct-17 22:39:32

Blair Witch Project - simple, low budget but creepy.
